, formerly known as Wautersiella falsenii, was first described in 2006. It is a non-motile, non-fermenting, gram-negative rod, which grows aerobically. A handful of case reports have described its isolation from respiratory, urinary and abscess samples. Besides clinical specimens, it has also been isolated from metalworking fluids and aerosols, carpet surfaces and polluted soils. However, to our knowledge, this is the first case report that describes bacteremia from . We present a 56-year-old male with liver cirrhosis, congestive heart failure and substance abuse disorder, who was admitted in a community hospital in the Bronx, New York for bacteremia of the said organism. This bacterium may serve as a reservoir for resistance genes, such as ERB, tetX and aadS, posing dangers to immunocompromised or hospitalized patients, highlighting the need to study this organism further.

Two Gram-negative, aerobic halophilic non-motile strains designated KMM 9713 and KMM 9724T were isolated from the bottom sediments sampled from the Chukchi Sea in the Arctic Ocean, Russia. The novel strains grew in 0.5-5% NaCl, at 7-42°C, and pH 5.5-10.5. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene and whole genome sequences revealed that strains KMM 9713 and KMM 9724T were close to each other and shared the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 91.28% with the type strain Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale DSM 15997T and 90.15-90.92% with the members of the genus Empedobacter in the family Weeksellaceae. Phylogenetic trees indicated that strains KMM 9713 and KMM 9724T formed a distinct line adjacent to their relative O. rhinotracheale DSM 15997T. The average nucleotide identity values between strain KMM 9724T and O. rhinotracheale DSM 15997T, Empedobacter brevis NBRC 14943T, and Moheibacter sediminis CGMCC 1.12708T were 76.73%, 75.78%, and 74.65%, respectively. The novel strains contained the predominant menaquinone MK-6 and the major fatty acids of iso-C17:0 3-OH, iso-C15:0 followed by iso-C17:1ω6. Polar lipids consisted of phosphatidylethanolamine, one an unidentified aminophospholipid, two unidentified aminolipids, and two or three unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C contents of 34.5% and 34.7% were calculated from genome sequence of the strains KMM 9713 and KMM 9724T, respectively. Based on the phylogenetic evidence and distinctive phenotypic characteristics, strains KMM 9713 and KMM 9724T are proposed to be classified as a novel genus and species Profundicola chukchiensis gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain of Profundicola chukchiensis gen. nov., sp. nov. is strain KMM 9724T (= KACC 22806T).

Gray sufu, a traditional fermented food derived from soybeans, undergoes a complex fermentation process. This study aimed to investigate the dynamics of the microbial community during sufu fermentation and its relationship with key quality characteristics. Through systematic sampling of sufu at different phases of fermentation, 143 bacterial genera and 84 fungal genera involved in the process were identified. Among these, , , , and emerged as the predominant bacterial communities. After seven days of ripening fermentation, supplanted as the predominant fungus, accounting for more than 84% of all fungi. Using redundancy analysis, significant correlations between microbiota and physicochemical properties were uncovered. and displayed positive relationships with pH, soluble protein, and amino nitrogen content. In addition, five biogenic amines were detected, and it was determined that tyramine accounted for more than 75% of the total biogenic amines in the final gray sufu products. Spearman correlation analysis revealed significant positive relationships between , , , , and and the five biogenic amines examined. These findings shed light on the complex interactions between microorganisms and biogenic amines during the fermentation of gray sufu, thereby facilitating the development of microbial regulation strategies for better quality control.

Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) has become a commonly used method for the quantification of gene expression. However, accurate qRT-PCR analysis requires a valid internal reference for data normalization. To determine the valid reference characterized with low expression variability among Spodoptera litura samples after microbial pesticide treatments, nine housekeeping genes, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), arginine kinase, ubiquitin C, actin-5C (ACT5C), actin, ribosomal protein S13 (RPS13), tubulin, acidic ribosomal protein P0 (RPLP0) and ubiquinol-cytochrome c reductase, were evaluated for their suitability using geNorm, Normfinder, BestKeeper, RefFinder and the comparative delta CT methods in this study. S. litura larvae after direct treatment (larvae were immersed in biopesticides), indirect treatment (larvae were fed with biopesticide immersed artificial diets) and comprehensive treatment (larvae were treated with the first two treatments in sequence), respectively with Metarhizium anisopliae, Empedobacter brevis and Bacillus thuringiensis, were investigated. The results indicated that the best sets of internal references were as follows: RPLP0 and ACT5C for direct treatment conditions; RPLP0 and RPS13 for indirect treatment conditions; RPS13 and GAPDH for comprehensive treatment conditions; RPS13 and RPLP0 for all the samples. These results provide valuable bases for further genetic researches in S. litura.
