Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may lead to many otolaryngological disorders such as loss of smell and taste, sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), facial palsy, and parotitis. The involvement of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in vestibular neuritis (VN) has been reported in 2 adult patients but not really confirmed through objective testings. We present a case of a 13-year-old girl with left superior vestibular neuritis confirmed by Video Head Impulse Test during a proven COVID-19 infection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case associating VN and COVID-19 that was demonstrated with an objective peripheral assessment. Physicians may be aware about the occurrence of VN in patients with COVID-19, keeping in mind that this condition may develop not only in adults. Early detection of SARS-CoV-2 in this pandemic is required to prevent its spread.

Neonatal suppurative parotitis is a rare condition that is diagnosed primarily through clinical evaluation. The prognosis is generally good. In this report, we present the case of a 21-day-old female infant who was treated in our ENT department for neonatal suppurative parotitis. The patient presented with a feverish, hard, red, and tender swelling of the parotid loge which displaced the right earlobe outward. In addition, purulent exudate was observed from Stensen's duct. A computed tomography scan of the cervical and cerebral regions revealed a swollen right parotid gland with heterogeneous density and enhancement, but no detectable collection. The patient received intravenous antibiotics for 48 hours, resulting in a favorable outcome without the need for surgical treatment. The aim of this study is to emphasize the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of this clinical condition. Suppurative parotitis should be suspected by the clinician in newborns who present with an inflammatory preauricular swelling, with or without contributing factors. The outcome is generally favorable, and complications are rare with timely and appropriate medical treatment.

INTRODUCTION
Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) is a common and severe form of male infertility. Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (microTESE) combined with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an optimal treatment for men with NOA. However, the outcomes and affecting factors of ICSI for NOA patients with different etiologies receiving microTESE treatment are still unclear.
METHODS
A total of 335 NOA patients undergoing microTESE from January 2017 to December 2021 were included in this retrospective analysis. The patients were divided into five groups (idiopathic, Klinefelter syndrome (KS), Y chromosome microdeletions (YCMDs), cryptorchidism and mumps orchitis) according to the etiologies. The clinical characteristics and outcomes of microTESE and ICSI were collected and comparisons were performed between clinical characteristics of patients who had successful sperm retrieval (SSR) and sperm retrieval failure (SRF). In addition, relationships between clinical characteristics and rates of SSR were explored by Kendall correlation analysis.
RESULTS
The overall SSR rate was 40.90%. SSR rate of the idiopathic group (31.22%) was the lowest and was much lower than that of other groups (KS: 48.65%, 28/58; YCMDs: 60.87%; cryptorchidism: 80.95%; mumps orchitis: 75.00%). The overall fertilization rate was 72.26%. No group differences were found among five groups (idiopathic: 73.91%; KS: 71.43%; YCMDs: 64.29%; cryptorchidism: 70.59%; mumps orchitis: 77.78%). The overall clinical pregnancy rate was 66.67%. No group differences were found among five groups (idiopathic: 68.63%; KS: 65.00%; YCMDs: 44.44%; cryptorchidism: 66.67%; mumps orchitis: 85.71%). The overall live birth rate was 66.67%. No group differences were found among five groups (idiopathic: 71.43%; KS: 53.85%; YCMDs: 50.00%; cryptorchidism: 75.00%; mumps orchitis: 66.67%). For SSR patients, the average age was significantly lower in the idiopathic group, while the average testicular volume was significantly greater in the cryptorchidism and mumps orchitis groups. However, no significant differences were found in the level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone (T) between patients who had SSR and SRF. In addition, negative relationships were found between age and rates of SSR in idiopathic NOA patients while positive relationships were found between testis volume and rates of SSR in patients with cryptorchidism and mumps orchitis.
CONCLUSION
Patients with idiopathic NOA had lowest SSR. In addition, the age in idiopathic NOA patients was a predictor for SSR while testicular volume in NOA patients with cryptorchidism and mumps orchitis was a predictor for SSR. However, the relationships between clinical characteristics and clinical outcomes in NOA patients were preliminary, and further validation needed to be carried out in a larger sample to increase statistical capacity before a definitive conclusion could be drawn.

OBJECTIVE
Juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP) is a rare disease that may adversely affect normal development and quality of life. The objective of this study was to report on the demographics, characteristics, and treatment outcomes of JRP and to offer evidence-based management recommendations.
STUDY DESIGN
Retrospective review.
SETTING
A single tertiary care pediatric teaching hospital.
METHODS
Medical records, imaging studies, and laboratory findings over a 10-year period were retrospectively collected and reviewed, resulting in 41 patients with JRP between the ages of 8 months and 16 years.
RESULTS
Black males aged 2 to 8 years were most commonly affected by JRP. Overall, 18 (44%) patients received ≥3 antibiotics, and 17 (42%) underwent sialendoscopy for treatment. Over 75% of patients had no JRP recurrences after 3 sialendoscopies. The most common imaging approach was computed tomography (42%), and the most frequent laboratory results were elevated amylase (83%) and C-reactive protein (82%). Atopy (61%) and excess weight (42%) were routinely associated with JRP, especially in severe cases.
CONCLUSION
JRP workup and treatment plans should begin with the least burdening modalities, including over-the-counter analgesics, minimal laboratory studies in the acute phase, and ultrasonography over computed tomography. Clindamycin is an effective initial antibiotic of choice, and severe recurrences may be controlled with sialendoscopy. Optimizing the health of patients with JRP includes managing comorbidities, especially of atopic and overweight origins, which are associated with more severe cases.

A 36-year-old immunocompetent female presented to the emergency department (ED) with five days of headache and left-sided facial pain. Physical exam showed conjunctival injection of the left eye with multiple vesicular lesions distributed along the V1 dermatome. Labs were remarkable for mild elevation in erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and c-reactive protein (CRP) with no elevation in white blood cell (WBC) count. Computed tomography (CT) with contrast of the neck revealed soft tissue stranding around the parotid gland. The patient was diagnosed with herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) with concurrent ipsilateral parotitis and subsequently treated with valacyclovir, ofloxacin eye drops, topical erythromycin ointment and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. Upon follow-up ten days after discharge, the patient noted marked improvement in her symptoms and reduction in pain. To our knowledge, this is the first case described in medical literature of a female patient with HZO and ipsilateral parotitis.

Parotid gland swelling, or parotitis, typically associated with infectious causes, can uncommonly result from non-infectious factors such as mechanical trauma following endoscopic procedures. We present a case of a 46-year-old female with liver cirrhosis who developed right parotid swelling shortly after undergoing endoscopy for evaluation of gastrointestinal symptoms. The patient's clinical course, imaging findings, and successful resolution with conservative measures are detailed. The etiology of post-endoscopy parotid swelling is multifactorial, involving potential mechanisms such as mechanical trauma, salivary gland dysfunction, infection, ductal obstruction, or allergic reactions to medications. Diagnosing this rare complication requires a comprehensive clinical evaluation, including a detailed history, symptom assessment, and imaging studies such as ultrasound. Management involves a combination of symptomatic relief, identification, and treatment of the underlying cause, emphasizing the importance of early recognition to prevent complications. In our case, warm compression provided pain relief, and the swelling subsided without the need for medical or surgical intervention. Regular follow-up evaluations and imaging studies are crucial to assess treatment response and ensure the resolution of the swelling. This case contributes to the limited literature on post-endoscopy parotid swelling, emphasizing the significance of recognizing and managing this rare complication promptly. Healthcare professionals should be vigilant, and further research is encouraged to better understand its pathophysiology and optimize management strategies in order to improve patient outcomes.

PURPOSE
No standardized treatment regimen exists for juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP). The investigators hypothesized that irrigation with saline only without local anesthesia will be an effective and beneficial option.
METHODS
Using a retrospective study design, a series of children with typical symptoms of JRP who were treated with at least one irrigation therapy were evaluated. This treatment consisted of irrigation of the affected gland with 3-10 ml saline solution without any type of anesthesia. The outcome variables were patient/parent satisfaction, frequency and duration of acute JRP episodes, and the need for antibiotics before and after irrigation therapy.
RESULTS
The case series was composed of six boys aged 3.3-7.7 years who experienced one to eight sessions of irrigation therapy. The period of follow-up was 9-64 months. We observed a total resolution of symptoms in two children and an improvement in the other four. No relevant side effects were seen.
CONCLUSION
Our results suggest that irrigation therapy is a reasonable, simple, and minimally invasive treatment alternative for JRP. In contrast to sialendoscopy or sialography, there is no need for general anesthesia or radiation exposure.

Diseases of the salivary glands are rare in children and adolescents, with the exception of viral-induced infections. To determine the clinical course of the disease, the diagnostic procedures, the treatment and the outcome of all children and adolescents affected with salivary gland diseases at our clinic over a period of 15 years. A retrospective chart review including a long-term follow-up was conducted among 146 children and adolescents treated for salivary gland disorders from 2002 to 2016. Diagnosing acute sialadenitis was easily managed by all doctors regardless of their specialty. The diagnosis of sialolithiasis was rapidly made only by otorhinolaryngologists, whereas diagnosing juvenile recurrent parotitis imposed difficulties to doctors of all specialties - resulting in a significant delay between the first occurrence of symptoms and the correct diagnosis. The severity-adjusted treatment yielded improvements in all cases, and a full recovery of 75% of the cases of sialolithiasis, 73% of the cases of juvenile recurrent parotitis, and 100% of the cases of acute sialadenitis. Due to their low prevalence and the lack of pathognomonic symptoms, salivary gland diseases in children and adolescents are often misdiagnosed, resulting in an unnecessarily long period of suffering despite a favorable outcome following the correct treatment.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE
Esophageal achalasia is a motility disorder of the esophagus with unknown etiology characterized by the failure of lower esophageal sphincter relaxation. Diagnosis is made by barium esophagography, endoscopy, and esophageal manometery. Heller Esophagomyotomy along with Dor's fundoplication is the treatment of choice. Persisting undiagnosed cases may lead to malnutrition.
CASE PRESENTATION
We present a case of an 8-year-old child suffering from dysphagia and regurgitation. The child was misdiagnosed and maltreated for the suspicion of respiratory tract and gastrointestinal problems in the local clinics. During this time, he remained unresponsive to the mentioned treatments, and the local physician advised him to have an upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, which revealed esophageal achalasia (EA). On admission to our pediatric surgery ward, the patient had coexistent parotitis, which was treated conservatively. Following recovery, the patient was prepared for surgery and underwent esophageal myotomy along with Dor's fundoplication.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION
Esophageal achalasia is rare in children, but poses major health challenges to children if left untreated. Symptomatic treatment may mask the actual picture of the problem and last for years. Following surgery and discharge from the hospital in a three-month follow-up interval of time, our patient exhibited full recovery, with gaining 4 kg weight.
CONCLUSIONS
Respiratory and gastrointestinal conditions with similar signs and symptoms should always be considered in differential diagnosis of esophageal achalasia, especially where there is no direct access to a pediatric specialized complex. On-time evaluation and treatment will further prevent children from malnutrition in long-lasting undiagnosed patients.
