Comparative Study
This study investigated the effects of daily use of three denture cleansers on three hard chairside reline materials over a 6-month period. Two controls were used; one dry and one involving storage in water. Colour and hardness were measured at 0 (baseline) and 6-months. There was no significant colour change with Tokuso Rebase Fast Set. Coe Kooliner and Total Hard changed colour more with the short acting peroxide cleanser (Steradent 3 Minutes) than with the overnight peroxide cleanser (Steradent Fresh) and the hypochlorite cleanser (Dentural). The hardness of all materials remained unchanged over the whole test period.

A procedure to reinforce mandibular complete dentures with a rigid internal horseshoe-shaped frame is described. Sequential clinical and laboratory procedures to incorporate a metal frame at a predetermined, controlled position within the prosthesis are presented. This procedure provides not only strength but ensures adequate space for a resilient liner if required.

Journal of Dentistry Jun 2022To evaluate the incidence of the first complete denture reline in a population of publicly insured adults and to assess its association with complete denture longevity.
OBJECTIVES
To evaluate the incidence of the first complete denture reline in a population of publicly insured adults and to assess its association with complete denture longevity.
METHODS
The records of 187,227 Australian adults who accessed subsidized complete denture treatment through public clinics were assessed. The number of years from denture issue to denture replacement was modelled using Poisson regression.
RESULTS
Over 20 years, 5.9% of participants received at least one reline. The incidence rate (IR) for relines was highest in the first year of denture life, (IR: 0.031, 95%CI 0.030 to 0.032) and decreased as dentures increased in age. Dentures receiving an early reline (within 12 months of denture issue) had a mean longevity of 5.03 years (SD: 3.76) and dentures which received a late reline had a mean longevity of 7.12 years (SD: 3.32). Multivariate Poisson regression found that dentures which received an early reline were associated with a 2% reduction in denture longevity in comparison to those who did not receive a reline (IRR: 0.98, 95%CI: 0.97 to 0.99, p<0.001). Dentures which received a late reline were associated with a 15% increase in longevity in comparison to dentures which received no reline (IRR: 1.15, 95%CI: 1.13 to 1.16, p<0.001).
CONCLUSION
The incidence of relining in this population was low. The results show that the timing of a reline during a denture's life modulates its effect on denture longevity. Denture longevity was prolonged in those receiving a late reline and was reduced in those receiving an early reline.
CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Relines performed after at least 12 months of denture issue can be expected to increase the longevity of complete dentures. This effect was not observed for relines performed within the first 12 months of denture provision.

Medicinski Glasnik : Official... Aug 2012To reveal patients' satisfaction with their old, usually poorly fitting dentures and the effect of denture relining to the patient's satisfaction.
AIM
To reveal patients' satisfaction with their old, usually poorly fitting dentures and the effect of denture relining to the patient's satisfaction.
METHODS
Thirty seven denture wearers participated in study by filling out questionnaires about their satisfaction with dentures before and after relining. In that way the data indicating the subjective patient's experience and satisfaction were collected.
RESULTS
Relined removable dentures included in study were on average 5.52 years (upper) or 4.86 years old (lower). Most of study participants (57%) were satisfied with their poor fitting dentures. Statistically significant was correlation between chewing discomfort and satisfaction, and the time elapsed from last tooth extraction to denture production. As this period was shorter, chewing discomfort was greater and satisfaction with chewing lower. Majority (53.3%) of denture wearers were considerably more satisfied with the chewing ability and felt better regarding the chewing discomfort after denture relining. Minority of the patients (22%) still used an adhesive for fixing the dentures after relining.
CONCLUSION
Denture relining affects patient's satisfaction with their dentures. After relining patient's masticatory function was improved, satisfaction with chewing ability and comfort were greater, and denture hygiene better. Denture relining should be performed in order to improve denture fitting to a denture bearing area, thus positively affecting patient's satisfaction with his denture(s).

UNLABELLED
For older patients, clinicians should consider maintaining teeth and using functionally-orientated treatment strategies as an alternative to removable prostheses. When the remaining dentition has a poor prognosis, key teeth should be preserved as overdenture abutments and a gradual transition to edentulousness planned. Where complete dentures are provided, these can be retained using dental implants to overcome many of the problems associated with conventional replacement dentures.
CLINICAL RELEVANCE
The elderly population of today is better informed and more demanding of oral healthcare providers than previous generations. Clinicians should be aware of all the prosthodontic treatment options available for older patients.

Review
Diagnosis and treatment planning are essential prior to the placement of any dental implant. An overview of prosthodontic considerations in the restoration of such implants is presented in this article. Concepts for both the edentulous and partially edentulous mouth are discussed.
