Left renal vein variants are not commonly observed in the general population. Usually, the renal vein runs in front of the aorta before entering the inferior vena cava, while the most common variants include the presence of a circumaortic or retroaortic renal vein. However, when present, left venal rein variants are important to recognize due to their potential clinical and surgical relevance. In this regard, CE-CT is an instrument with high sensitivity and specificity in detecting vascular anomalies and can certainly help diagnose. In this article, we present a unique case of a left venal rein compressed between the left iliac artery and vertebral bodies associated with the presence of a superior mesenteric artery Syndrome, another rare entity that occurs when the duodenum is compressed between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery.

BACKGROUND
The neuroimmune network plays a crucial role in regulating mucosal immune homeostasis within the digestive tract. Synaptosome-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25) is a presynaptic membrane-binding protein that activates ILC2s, initiating the host's anti-parasitic immune response.
METHODS
To investigate the effect of Moniezia benedeni (M. benedeni) infection on the distribution of SNAP-25 in the sheep's small intestine, the recombinant plasmid pET-28a-SNAP-25 was constructed and expressed in BL21, yielding the recombinant protein. Then, the rabbit anti-sheep SNAP-25 polyclonal antibody was prepared and immunofluorescence staining was performed with it. The expression levels of SNAP-25 in the intestines of normal and M. benedeni-infected sheep were detected by ELISA.
RESULTS
The results showed that the SNAP-25 recombinant protein was 29.3 KDa, the titer of the prepared immune serum reached 1:128,000. It was demonstrated that the rabbit anti-sheep SNAP-25 polyclonal antibody could bind to the natural protein of sheep SNAP-25 specifically. The expression levels of SNAP-25 in the sheep's small intestine revealed its primary presence in the muscular layer and lamina propria, particularly around nerve fibers surrounding the intestinal glands. Average expression levels in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum were 130.32 pg/mg, 185.71 pg/mg, and 172.68 pg/mg, respectively. Under conditions of M. benedeni infection, the spatial distribution of SNAP-25-expressing nerve fibers remained consistent, but its expression level in each intestine segment was increased significantly (P < 0.05), up to 262.02 pg/mg, 276.84 pg/mg, and 326.65 pg/mg in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, and it was increased by 101.06%, 49.07%, and 89.16% respectively.
CONCLUSIONS
These findings suggest that M. benedeni could induce the SNAP-25 expression levels in sheep's intestinal nerves significantly. The results lay a foundation for further exploration of the molecular mechanism by which the gastrointestinal nerve-mucosal immune network perceives parasites in sheep.

Does a postmortem redistribution affect the concentrations of the 7 azaindole-derived synthetic cannabinoid 5F-MDMB-P7AICA in tissues and body fluids following pulmonary administration to pigs?
Many fatal intoxications have been reported in connection with the consumption of newer, highly potent synthetic cannabinoids. Yet, a possible postmortem redistribution (PMR) might complicate reliable interpretation of analytical results. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the PMR-potential of new synthetic cannabinoids. The pig model has already proven to be suitable for this purpose. Hence, the aim of this study was to study the PMR of the synthetic cannabinoid 5F-MDMB-P7AICA and its main metabolite 5F-MDMB-P7AICA-dimethylbutanoic acid (DBA). 5F-MDMB-P7AICA (200 µg/kg body weight) was administered by inhalation to anesthetized and ventilated pigs. At the end of the experiment, the animals were euthanized and stored at room temperature for 3 days. Tissue and body fluid samples were taken daily. Specimens were analyzed after solid phase extraction using a standard addition method and LC-MS/MS, blood was quantified after protein precipitation using a validated method. In perimortem samples, 5F-MDMB-P7AICA was found mainly in adipose tissue, bile fluid, and duodenum contents. Small amounts of 5F-MDMB-P7AICA were found in blood, muscle, brain, liver, and lung. High concentrations of DBA were found primarily in bile fluid, duodenum contents, urine, and kidney/perirenal fat tissue. In the remaining tissues, rather low amounts could be found. In comparison to older synthetic cannabinoids, PMR of 5F-MDMB-P7AICA was less pronounced. Concentrations in blood also appear to remain relatively stable at a low level postmortem. Muscle, kidney, fat, and duodenum content are suitable alternative matrices for the detection of 5F-MDMB-P7AICA and DBA, if blood specimens are not available. In conclusion, concentrations of 5F-MDMB-P7AICA and its main metabolite DBA are not relevantly affected by PMR.

Ectonucleotidases play an important role in regulating the level of extracellular nucleotides and nucleosides and are an important part of the regulation of the effects of adenosine and ATP on adenosine and P2 receptors, respectively. We have previously established the ambiguous effect of P2 receptor agonists on the contractile activity of smooth muscle tissue in rats with the valproate model of autism. In this work, HPLC was used to evaluate the activity of ectonucleotidases in the smooth muscle tissues of the internal organs of rats with a valproate model of autism. The activity of ectonucleotidases was significantly higher in the smooth muscle tissues of the duodenum, vas deferens, and bladder, but lower in the ileum and uterus. The results obtained make it possible to compare the activity of ectonucleotidases identified here with changes in P2 receptor-mediated contractility of smooth muscle tissues revealed in our previous experiments.

The liver and intestine play a critical role in nutrient absorption, storage, and metabolism. The aim of this study was to evaluate expression pattern of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of the rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway that included PI3K, AKT1, mTOR, FoxO1, SREBP-1, PPARα, PTEN and FXR in the maternal liver and duodenum. Ovine livers and duodenums were sampled at day 16 of the estrous cycle, and at days 13, 16 and 25 of gestation, and RT-qPCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry analysis were used to detect mRNA and protein expression. The results showed that expression of PI3K, AKT1, p-mTOR, FoxO1, SREBP-1 and PTEN upregulated in the maternal liver, and PPARα upregulated in the duodenum. However, expression of FoxO1, SREBP-1 and PTEN in the duodenum downregulated during early pregnancy. In addition, expression levels of SREBP-1, PTEN and PPARα in the maternal liver, and PI3K in the duodenum peaked at day 13 of pregnancy. In addition, expression levels of PI3K, p-mTOR and FoxO1 in the liver, and AKT1 and p-mTOR in the duodenum peaked at day 16 of pregnancy. Nevertheless, expression levels of FXR both in the maternal liver duodenum downregulated at days 13 and 16 of pregnancy. In conclusion, early pregnancy regulated expression pattern of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in the ovine liver and duodenum in a pregnancy stage-specific and tissue-specific manner, which may be necessary for the adaptations in maternal hepatic nutrient metabolism and intestinal nutrient absorption early pregnancy.

Herniation of bowel contents between the peritoneal cavity proper and the omental bursa, through the foramen of Winslow, can present diagnostic challenges that can potentially delay necessary surgical intervention. This case describes a 49-year-old female with a past medical history of hiatal hernia and biliary dyskinesia who presented to the emergency department with severe epigastric and right lower quadrant abdominal pain one day after a reported gastrointestinal illness of unknown etiology. Initial emergency department workup demonstrated an elevated white blood cell count without lactic acidosis. Computed tomography imaging was interpreted as gastric distension with volvulus around the mesentery and second portion of the duodenum. Intraoperatively, the entirety of the right colon was noted to have passed through the foramen of Winslow into the lesser sac. This led to twisting of the mesocolon causing compression of the duodenum and a gastric outlet obstruction. After surgical reduction of the herniation, the patient noted great improvement in pain and other symptoms.

Investigation of functional cytochrome P450 4A enzymes in liver and kidney of pigs, cats, tree shrews, and dogs in comparison with the metabolic capacity of human P450 4A11.
Pigs are sometimes utilized in preclinical drug metabolism studies, with growing interest, and so their drug-metabolizing enzymes, including the cytochromes P450 (P450 or CYP; EC 1.14.14.1), need to be examined. In the present study, novel CYP4A cDNAs were isolated and characterized, namely, pig CYP4A23 and CYP4A90; cat CYP4A37 and CYP4A106; and tree shrew CYP4A11a, CYP4A11d, CYP4A11e, CYP4A11f, and CYP4A11g. For comparison, the following known CYP4A cDNAs were also analyzed: pig CYP4A21 and dog CYP4A37, CYP4A38, and CYP4A39. These CYP4A cDNAs all contained open reading frames of 504-513 amino acids and had high amino acid sequence identity (74-80%) with human CYP4As. Phylogenetic analysis of amino acid sequences revealed that these CYP4As were clustered in each species. All genes contained 12 coding exons and formed a gene cluster in the corresponding genomic regions. A range of tissue types were analyzed, and these CYP4A mRNAs were preferentially expressed in liver and/or kidney, except for pig CYP4A90, which showed preferential expression in lung and duodenum. CYP4A enzymes, heterologously expressed in preferentially catalyzed lauric acid 12-hydroxylation and arachidonic acid 20-hydroxylation, just as human CYP4A11 does, with the same regioselectivity, i.e., at the ω-position of fatty acids. These results imply that dog, cat, pig, and tree shrew CYP4As have functional characteristics similar to those of human CYP4A11, with minor differences in lauric acid 12-hydroxylation. Cytochrome P450 (P450, CYP) 4As are important P450s in human biological processes because of their fatty acid-metabolizing ability. Pig CYP4A21, CYP4A23, and CYP4A90; cat CYP4A37 and CYP4A106; tree shrew CYP4A11a, CYP4A11d, CYP4A11e, CYP4A11f, and CYP4A11g; and dog CYP4A37, CYP4A38, and CYP4A39 cDNAs were isolated and analyzed. These CYP4A cDNAs shared relatively high sequence identities with human CYP4A11 and CYP4A22. Pig, cat, tree shrew, and dog CYP4As in the liver and kidneys are likely to catalyze the ω-hydroxylation of fatty acids.

INTRODUCTION
The drawbacks of using antibiotics as feed additives for blue foxes have gradually become apparent; moreover, thymol has wide-spectrum antimicrobial activity and has the potential to replace antibiotics in various animals. However, there are few reports on the effects of thymol on blue foxes.
METHODS
This study aimed to investigate the effects of different concentrations of thymol on the growth performance, apparent nutrient digestibility, serum biochemical indicators, intestinal morphology, and gut microbiota of blue foxes. Twenty-four male blue foxes (120 ± 5 d) of similar weight (6.05 ± 0.16 kg) were randomly divided into 4 groups. 0, 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg thymol were added to the basal diets of groups C, L, M, and H, respectively.
RESULTS
Compared with those in the C group, the addition of 100 mg/kg thymol to the diet significantly increased organic matter (OM) digestibility, crude protein (CP) digestibility, immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgM, the VH of the duodenum, the CD of the jejunum, the VH of the ileum, and the VH/CD of the ileum ( < 0.05) and strongly significantly increased IgG ( < 0.01). The addition of 200 mg/kg thymol to the diet increased the VH/CD of the duodenum ( < 0.05). The addition of 300 mg/kg thymol to the diet significantly increased the VH and CD of the jejunum ( < 0.05). The addition of 200 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg thymol to the diets increased the final weight (FW) ( < 0.05). Adding 100 mg/kg thymol significantly increased the levels of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and catalase (CAT) compared with those in the other groups ( < 0.05). 16S rRNA gene detection revealed that thymol can change the abundances of , , , , , and in the gut.
CONCLUSION
The addition of thymol to diets can increase the abundance of , , and , which may contribute to improving the growth performance of blue foxes.

BACKGROUND
Duodenal Brunner's gland hyperplasia (BGH) is a therapeutic target when complications such as bleeding or gastrointestinal obstruction occur or when malignancy cannot be ruled out. Herein, we present a case of large BGH treated with endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR).
CASE SUMMARY
An 83-year-old woman presented at our hospital with dizziness. Blood tests revealed severe anemia, esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a 6.5 cm lesion protruding from the anterior wall of the duodenal bulb, and biopsy revealed the presence of glandular epithelium. Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) demonstrated relatively high echogenicity with a cystic component. The muscularis propria was slightly elevated at the base of the lesion. EMR was performed without complications. The formalin-fixed lesion size was 6 cm × 3.5 cm × 3 cm, showing nodular proliferation of non-dysplastic Brunner's glands compartmentalized by fibrous septa, confirming the diagnosis of BGH. Reports of EMR or hot snare polypectomy are rare for duodenal BGH > 6 cm. In this case, the choice of EMR was made by obtaining information on the base of the lesion as well as on the internal characteristics through EUS.
CONCLUSION
Large duodenal lesions with good endoscopic maneuverability and no evident muscular layer involvement on EUS may be resectable EMR.

The escalating prevalence of gastrointestinal cancers underscores the urgency for transformative approaches. Current treatment costs amount to billions of dollars annually, combined with the risks and comorbidities associated with invasive surgery. This highlights the importance of less invasive alternatives with organ preservation being a central aspect of the treatment paradigm. The current standard of care typically involves neoadjuvant systemic therapy followed by surgical resection. There is a growing interest in organ preservation approaches by way of minimizing extensive surgical resections. Endoscopic ablation has proven to be useful in precursor lesions, as well as in palliative cases of unresectable disease. More recently, there has been an increase in reports on the utility of adjunct endoscopic ablative techniques for downstaging disease as well as contributing to non-surgical complete clinical response. This expansive field within endoscopic oncology holds great potential for advancing patient care. By addressing challenges, fostering collaboration, and embracing technological advancements, the gastrointestinal cancer treatment paradigm can shift towards a more sustainable and patient-centric future emphasizing organ and function preservation. This editorial examines the evolving landscape of endoscopic ablation strategies, emphasizing their potential to improve patient outcomes. We briefly review current applications of endoscopic ablation in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, bile ducts, and colon.
