Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is an X-linked disorder that often leads to intellectual disability, anxiety, and sensory hypersensitivity. While sound sensitivity (hyperacusis) is a distressing symptom in FXS, its neural basis is not well understood. It is postulated that hyperacusis may stem from temporal lobe hyperexcitability or dysregulation in topdown modulation. Studying the neural mechanisms underlying sound sensitivity in FXS using scalp electroencephalography (EEG) is challenging because the temporal and frontal regions have overlapping neural projections that are difficult to differentiate. To overcome this challenge, we conducted EEG source analysis on a group of 36 individuals with FXS and 39 matched healthy controls. Our goal was to characterize the spatial and temporal properties of the response to an auditory chirp stimulus. Our results showed that males with FXS exhibit excessive activation in the frontal cortex in response to the stimulus onset, which may reflect changes in top-down modulation of auditory processing. Additionally, during the chirp stimulus, individuals with FXS demonstrated a reduction in typical gamma phase synchrony, along with an increase in asynchronous gamma power, across multiple regions, most strongly in temporal cortex. Consistent with these findings, we observed a decrease in the signal-to-noise ratio, estimated by the ratio of synchronous to asynchronous gamma activity, in individuals with FXS. Furthermore, this ratio was highly correlated with performance in an auditory attention task. Compared to controls, males with FXS demonstrated elevated bidirectional frontotemporal information flow at chirp onset. The evidence indicates that both temporal lobe hyperexcitability and disruptions in top-down regulation play a role in auditory sensitivity disturbances in FXS. These findings have the potential to guide the development of therapeutic targets and back-translation strategies.

Tinea capitis, primarily caused by dermatophytes such as and species, is a superficial fungal infection affecting the scalp and hair, commonly observed in prepubertal children but rare in adults. Here we report a unique case of an adult female with tinea capitis presenting as diffused alopecia and erythema inflammation on the scalp's apex, mimicking seborrheic dermatitis. Examination of the hair and scalp using fluorescence microscopy and fungal culture identified the presence of hyphae from and . The patient underwent with oral antifungal treatment for 3 months, resulting in the resolution of the rash and subsequent hair regrowth, with no recurrence during 6-month follow-up. In vitro co-culture experiments of and (both and ) revealed that appears to facilitate growth, while the reverse was not observed. This data suggests that 's use of long-chain fatty acids by might reduce its antibacterial effect, potentially aiding adult tinea capitis development caused by .

INTRODUCTION
Affective decision-making is a prominent topic in consumer psychology research, with its core assumption being that consumers tend to purchase brands and commodities they like. However, the reasons behind why we develop emotional responses of liking or disliking toward certain commodities, as well as what the underlying neural mechanisms are, remain largely unknown.
METHODS
This study utilized the S1-S2 paradigm in an experiment wherein S1 presented 12 types of commodities and S2 displayed 48 distinct colored squares. Participants were instructed to assess whether they "Like" or "Dislike" the commodity in S1, which was colored with the S2 color. Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were obtained during the reaction process and subsequently analyzed to examine the components of S2-induced event-related potentials (ERPs).
RESULTS
The analysis revealed that S2 elicited a significant N270 in the prefrontal scalp area under both the "Like" and "Dislike" conditions. Interestingly, the amplitude of the N270 was significantly higher during the "Dislike" condition compared to the "Like" condition.
DISCUSSION
The N270 component was shown to reflect the conflict in physical attributes between S1 and S2, as well as the conflict between commodity and color. This highlights the potential utility of this component as an objective EEG indicator of consumer commodity color preferences in future marketing research.

We present the case of a 55-year-old woman with a 10-day history of a rapidly progressing generalized rash. History was significant for recent increase in turmeric supplement dose. Clinical presentation was notable for diffuse plate-like yellow scaling of the scalp with lesser involvement of the ears. On the trunk and extremities, erythematous circinate plaques studded with pustules were noted with central trailing scale and desquamation. Laboratory results showed slight elevation of white blood cell count from her baseline but within normal range. Histopathological analysis of two punch biopsies showed spongiotic dermatitis with eosinophils, and subcorneal pustules with eosinophils, respectively, without any organisms. These findings were most consistent with acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP). Treatment included oral and topical corticosteroids as well as discontinuation of all dietary supplements. AGEP, a severe cutaneous adverse reaction, is associated most often with antibiotics; however, many other medications, including herbal supplements, have been documented as triggers in the literature. This is only the second reported case of potential turmeric-induced AGEP and the first reported case establishing a dose-related association between turmeric and AGEP. It is important to consider herbal supplements as part of the medical history to guide proper management when assessing a patient with AGEP.

While the financial advantages of hair coloring and tattooing are widely acknowledged, environmental hazards and health risks linked to this trend due to their p-phenylenediamine (PPD) content have received less attention. Health education on hair-dying products is warranted to enhance the public's awareness of hair-dying ingredients and their side effects. A cross-sectional study was therefore conducted with 319 students to assess knowledge of ecotoxicity, health risks, and practices of hair dyeing and tattooing among undergraduate students. A random sample of 59 students was checked for any allergic morphology in the scalp and exposed areas of skin near the neck, ears, palms, and nails. Responses collected were used for data analyses using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 17 (Released 2008; IBM Corp., Armonk, New York, United States). Use of hair dye was significantly high among study participants 58.5% (n=187; p<0.05). However, their knowledge regarding the presence of PPD in hair dyes and associated environmental toxicity (37.8%, n=121) was very limited. The majority of participants did not do any allergy tests before applying hair dye (88.9%, n=283). The study revealed that the main reason for hair coloring was as a fashion statement (93.7%, n=299). Regarding tattooing practices, 96.9% (n=309) of study participants had never practiced tattoos, and hence, the prevalence of tattooing was 3.9% (n=12). These data confirmed that the practice of hair dyeing as a style statement was high among students. However, the majority were unaware of their PPD contents and their potential ecotoxicity and health risks.

Pilar cysts are common benign cysts of follicular origin that typically arise in areas of skin containing dense hair follicles such as the scalp. Here we describe a unique case of a young woman who was found to have a pilar cyst on the dorsum of her hand, a rather atypical location given the relative lack of pilosebaceous units. This case illustrates the variability in pilar cyst presentation and the importance of considering a pilar cyst in the differential diagnosis of a patient presenting with a tumor of the dorsal hand.

An extremely rare benign lesion of the scalp is reported in a 2-month-old infant. The lesion had been present since birth. On examination, a 3 × 4 cm skin-colored soft mass over the occipital midline area was observed. On ultrasound, a diagnosis of occipital encephalocele was suggested. A complete excision of the mass was performed. Histological examination showed a subcutaneous lesion, which showed haphazardly arranged epithelioid cell nests admixed with connective tissue components, adipose tissues, and pseudovascular patterns within the deep dermis. Immunohistochemistry showed positive expression of Epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) and Vimentin. Tumor cells showed negative expression for Glial Fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), chromogranin, S-100, Smooth muscle actin (SMA), and CD 34. Based on the clinical presentation, histologic features, and results of ancillary studies, a diagnosis of meningothelial hamartoma of the scalp was given. The clinical behavior of this lesion is benign but it often causes diagnostic confusion and may mimic malignant tumors. It is crucial to recognize the main features of this lesion.

Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is a rare type of inflammatory scalp disorder that leads to scarring alopecia. It is classified as primary neutrophilic cicatricial alopecia. FD presents a challenging scenario in clinical dermatology due to its rarity, resistance to treatment, and potential for scarring alopecia. This inflammatory scalp disorder primarily affects middle-aged adults, predominantly males. While its exact pathogenesis remains uncertain, a deficient host immune response to Staphylococcus aureus infection is hypothesized. Therapeutic interventions for FD pose difficulties, with limited treatment options available A 58-year-old female patient presented with a history of follicular papules that gradually progressed to form clusters of pustules, crusting, and hemorrhagic lesions with tufting of hairs on the crown area of the scalp, and was diagnosed with FD. Considering isotretinoin's role in inhibiting abnormal keratinization and inflammation, and rifampicin's ability to eradicate S. aureus, the combination of both provides a comprehensive approach to tackling the underlying factors contributing to FD. Despite previous unsuccessful treatments, combination therapy with isotretinoin and rifampicin yielded a remarkable outcome, prompting further exploration of this approach.

Unravelling how energy metabolism and stress responses are regulated in human scalp hair follicles could reveal novel insights into the controls of hair growth and provide new targets to manage hair loss disorders. The Mitochondrial Pyruvate Carrier (MPC) imports pyruvate, produced via glycolysis, into the mitochondria, fuelling the TCA cycle. Previous work has shown that MPC inhibition promotes lactate generation, which activates murine epithelial hair follicle stem cells (eHFSCs). However, by pharmacologically targeting the MPC in short-term human hair follicle ex vivo organ culture experiments using UK-5099, we induced metabolic stress-responsive proliferative arrest throughout the human hair follicle epithelium, including within Keratin 15+ eHFSCs. Through transcriptomics, MPC inhibition was shown to promote a gene expression signature indicative of disrupted FGF, IGF, TGFβ and WNT signalling, mitochondrial dysfunction, and activation of the integrated stress response (ISR), which can arrest cell cycle progression. The ISR, mediated by the transcription factor ATF4, is activated by stressors including amino acid deprivation and ER stress, consistent with MPC inhibition within our model. Using RNAScope, we confirmed the upregulation of both ATF4 and the highly upregulated ATF4-target gene ADM2 on human hair follicle tissue sections in situ. Moreover, treatment with the ISR inhibitor ISRIB attenuated both the upregulation of ADM2 and the proliferative block imposed via MPC inhibition. Together, this work reveals how the human hair follicle, as a complex and metabolically active human tissue system, can dynamically adapt to metabolic stress.

BACKGROUND
Ultraviolet (UV)-induced fluorescence technology is widely used in dermatology to identify microbial infections. Our clinical observations under an ultraviolet-induced fluorescent dermatoscope (UVFD) showed red fluorescence on the scalps of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) patients. In this study, based on the hypothesis that microbes are induced to emit red fluorescence under UV light, we aimed to explore the microbial disparities between the AGA fluorescent area (AF group) and AGA non-fluorescent area (ANF group).
METHODS
Scalp swab samples were collected from 36 AGA patients, including both fluorescent and non-fluorescent areas. The bacterial communities on the scalp were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and bioinformatics analysis, as well as through microbial culture methods.
RESULTS
Significant variations were observed in microbial evenness, abundance composition, and functional predictions between fluorescent and non-fluorescent areas. Sequencing results highlighted significant differences in Cutibacterium abundance between these areas (34.06% and 21.36%, respectively; p < 0.05). Furthermore, cultured red fluorescent colonies primarily consisted of Cutibacterium spp., Cutibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Micrococcus spp.
CONCLUSIONS
This is the first study to investigate scalp red fluorescence, highlighting microbial composition variability across different scalp regions. These findings may provide novel insights into the microbiological mechanisms of AGA.
