The rapid proliferative biological behavior of primary foci of anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) makes it a lethal tumor. According to the specific iodine uptake capacity of thyroid cells and enhanced endocytosis of ATC cells, we designed a kind of nanoclay drug-loading system and showed a promising treatment strategy for ATC. Introducing potassium iodide (KI) improves the homoaggregation of clay nanoparticles and then affects the distribution of nanoparticles in vivo, which makes KI@DOX-Kaolin enriched almost exclusively in thyroid tissue. Simultaneously, the improvement of dispersibility of KI@DOX-Kaolin changes the target uptake of ATC cells by improving the endocytosis and nanoparticle-induced autophagy, which regulate the production of autolysosomes and autophagy-enhanced chemotherapy, eventually contributing to a tumor inhibition rate of more than 90% in the primary foci of ATC. Therefore, this facile strategy to improve the homoaggregation of nanoclay by introducing KI has the potential to become an advanced drug delivery vehicle in ATC treatment.

Tunable Anticorrosive Effects of Newly Synthesized Benzothiazole Azo Dyes by Potassium Iodide Synergism for Carbon Steel in 1 M HCl: Combined Experimental and Theoretical Studies.
Herein, we synthesized three novel benzothiazole azo dyes, including 4-chloro-2-(4-methyl-benzothiazol-2-ylazo)-phenol (CMBTAP), 1-(6-chloro-benzothiazol-2-ylazo)-naphthalen-2-ol (CBAN), and 2-(6-chloro-benzothiazol-2-ylazo)-4-methyl-phenol (CBAMP), and investigated their corrosion inhibition effect on carbon steel. The dyes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), C NMR, and mass spectroscopy. Weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and potentiodynamic polarization measurements were performed to investigate the corrosion inhibition effect of the dyes on carbon steel in a 1.0 M HCl solution. The synergistic effects of the dyes with potassium iodide (KI) were also investigated. The inhibition efficiency (IE%) was enhanced by increasing the dose of the dyes (1 × 10 to 2 × 10 M) and decreased as the temperature increased from 25 to 45 °C. The addition of KI to a 1.0 M HCl solution containing the dyes improved the performance and efficiency as iodide ions promoted the formation of inhibition films on the surface of carbon steel. The dyes are mixed-type inhibitors, according to Tafel polarization. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis were used to evaluate the surface morphology of carbon steel sheets. Quantum theory calculations were utilized to evaluate the relationship between the dyes' chemical structures and their inhibitory efficiency, which confirmed the experimental results. The calculations revealed that the dyes have low energy gap and Milliken and Fukui indices. Among all of the dyes, CMBTAP showed the highest adsorption energy. The corrosion IE was in the order CMBTAP > CBAMP > CBAN.

Sustainable development goal 12 advocates the production and consumption of green and sustainable commodities. As such, pressure is mounting on the oil and gas industries for a paradigm shift. This work explores the potential of aspartame (a derivative of aspartic acid and phenylalanine) based formulation as a green inhibitor. The inhibiting effect of aspartame alone and in combination with potassium iodide (KI) or sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) or both on T95 steel in 15 wt% HCl solution at 60-90 °C is investigated using weight loss, electrochemical, and surface analysis techniques. The results show severe metal corrosion especially at 90 °C with a corrosion rate (v) of 186.37 mm/y. Aspartame inhibits corrosion and its inhibition efficiency (η) increases with an increase in temperature. At 6.80 mM, η of 86% is obtained at 90 °C. The addition of SDS to aspartame produces an antagonistic effect. A KI-aspartame mixture produces an antagonistic effect at 60 °C and 70 °C but a synergistic effect at 80 °C and 90 °C. There is a strong synergy when aspartame (6.80 mM), KI (1 mM), and SDS (1 mM) are mixed especially at higher temperatures. The mixture reduces v from 186.37 to 14.35 mm/y, protecting the metal surface by 92% at 90 °C. The mixture can be considered an acidizing corrosion inhibitor.

In this study, we have developed a new ultrasonic synthesis method of dibenzoepines using olanzapine and quetiapine, which are well-known drugs for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The method is based on the -alkylation reaction of the piperazine fragment in tricyclic compounds with methyl iodide or 2-(2-chloroethoxy)ethanol as the alkylating agent, respectively. The synthesis reactions were carried out in an ultrasonic bath with solvents such as acetonitrile or dimethylformamide in the presence of potassium or sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide and metal-free, ecological phase transfer catalyst at a temperature of 40-50 °C. This allowed us to obtain olanzapine in 1 h (Y = 67%), and quetiapine in 3 h (Y = 72%). An ultrasonic reactor (Qsonica Q700) was used in the synthesis of olanzapine and made it possible to shorten the reaction time to 10 min and obtain 90% yield with very high purity. The developed method allows obtaining compounds in mild conditions and in a short time, thanks to which the process is more ecological than others described in the literature.

The success of Space missions and the efficacy of colonizing extraterrestrial environments depends on ensuring adequate nutrition for astronauts and autonomy from terrestrial resources. A balanced diet incorporating premium quality fresh foods, such as microgreens, is essential to the mental and physical well-being of mission crews. To improve the nutritional intake of astronaut meals, two levels of potassium iodide (KI; 4 µM and 8 µM) and an untreated control were assessed for iodine (I) biofortification, and overall nutraceutical profile of four microgreens: tatsoi ( L. subsp. narinosa), coriander ( L.), green basil, and purple basil ( L.). A dose-dependent increase in I was observed at 8 µM for all species, reaching concentrations of 200.73, 118.17, 93.97, and 82.70 mg kg of dry weight, in tatsoi, coriander, purple basil, and green basil, respectively. Across species, I biofortification slightly reduced fresh yield (-7.98%) while increasing the antioxidant activity (ABTS, FRAP, and DPPH). LC-MS/MS Q extractive orbitrap analysis detected 10 phenolic acids and 23 flavonoids among microgreen species. The total concentration of phenolic acids increased (+28.5%) in purple basil at 8 µM KI, while total flavonoids in coriander increased by 23.22% and 34.46% in response to 4 and 8 µM KI, respectively. Both doses of KI increased the concentration of total polyphenols in all species by an average of 17.45%, compared to the control.

This study aimed to investigate the use of selected pumpkin varieties as carriers of potassium iodide (KI) and potassium iodate (KIO) at different concentrations (2.3, 0.23, and 0.023 mg/100 g). It was hypothesized that the concentrations and form of iodine fortification in pumpkins affect the antioxidant activity of pumpkins. The results showed a high recovery of the introduced iodine in all pumpkin varieties after drying, as well as high iodine stability during storage, especially for KIO. However, statistical analysis confirmed a relationship between the forms and concentration of iodine and the ABTS cation radical and the DPPH radical test results. In the systems with iodine concentration at 0.023 and 0.23 mg/100 g, the antioxidant activity did not change. However, for all pumpkin varieties fortified with a KIO concentration at 3.9 mg/100 g (2.3 mg/100 g of iodine), a statistically significant decrease in free-radical scavenging was confirmed. Therefore, for maximum effectiveness in pumpkin's free-radical scavenging indices, it is suggested to introduce iodine in the form of KI and KIO, but in controlled concentrations. However, KIO should be added at a maximum amount of 0.39 mg/100 g.

INTRODUCTION
Auditory hallucinations are the most common type of hallucinations observed in schizophrenia; however, visual hallucinations are not uncommon. In Graves' disease, depression, hypomania, and psychosis can occur. While the association between Graves' disease and psychosis has been explored, understanding of the specific impact of thyroid dysfunction severity on psychiatric symptom severity is limited. Here, we present a case report of a patient with schizophrenia comorbid with Graves' disease whose psychotic symptoms were impacted by hyperthyroidism.
CASE
The patient was a 32-year-old Japanese woman who presented with auditory and visual hallucinations, agitation, and pressured speech. The patient was diagnosed with schizophrenia comorbid with Graves' disease and thyroid storm. The patient's psychotic symptoms were found to be associated with fluctuations in thyroid hormone levels, and visual hallucinations were observed only during thyroid storms. Treatment involved dexamethasone, potassium iodide, bisoprolol fumarate, and methimazole for thyrotoxicosis, and a blonanserin transdermal patch, paliperidone, and paliperidone palmitate for psychotic symptoms. The patient's auditory and visual hallucinations improved with antipsychotic treatment and decreased thyroid hormone levels.
CONCLUSION
This case highlights the importance of monitoring thyroid function in patients with schizophrenia, particularly those with comorbid Graves' disease. The correlation between psychiatric symptoms and thyroid hormone levels was demonstrated on an individual level over time, with symptoms worsening as thyroid hormone levels increased. Additionally, our case suggests that abnormally high thyroid hormone levels may trigger visual hallucinations in individuals with schizophrenia. Further studies are needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and potential treatment implications of this association.

An intermediate-scale reactor with 10L capacity and two transducers operating at 700 and 950 kHz frequencies was developed to study the scalability of the sonolytic destruction of Per and Polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS). The impact of frequency, height of liquid or power density, and transducer position on reactor performance was evaluated with the potassium iodide (KI) oxidation and calorimetric power. The dual frequency mode of operation has a synergistic effect based on the triiodide concentration, and calorimetric power. The triiodide concentration, and calorimetric power were higher in this mode compared to the combination of both frequencies operating individually. The sonochemical efficiency for an intermediate-scale reactor (10L) was similar that obtained from a bench-scale reactor (2L), showing the scalability of the sonolytic technology. The placement of the transducer at the bottom or side wall of the reactor had no significant impact on the sonochemical reactivity. The superposition of the ultrasonic field from the dual transducer mode (side and bottom) did not produce a synergistic effect compared to the single transducer mode (bottom or side). This can be attributed to a disturbance due to the interaction of ultrasonic fields of two frequencies from each transducer. With the encouraging results scaling up is in progress for site implementation.

Soybean Plants Exposed to Low Concentrations of Potassium Iodide Have Better Tolerance to Water Deficit through the Antioxidant Enzymatic System and Photosynthesis Modulation.
Water deficit inhibits plant growth by affecting several physiological processes, which leads to the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that may cause oxidative stress. In this regard, iodine (I) is already known to possibly enhance the antioxidant defense system of plants and promote photosynthetic improvements under adverse conditions. However, its direct effect on water deficit responses has not yet been demonstrated. To verify the efficiency of I concerning plant tolerance to water deficit, we exposed soybean plants to different concentrations of potassium iodide (KI) fed to pots with a nutrient solution and subsequently submitted them to water deficit. A decline in biomass accumulation was observed in plants under water deficit, while exposure to KI (10 and 20 μmol L) increased plant biomass by an average of 40%. Furthermore, exposure to KI concentrations of up to 20 μM improved gas exchange (~71%) and reduced lipid peroxidation. This is related to the higher enzymatic antioxidant activities found at 10 and 20 μM KI concentrations. However, when soybean plants were properly irrigated, KI concentrations greater than 10 μM promoted negative changes in photosynthetic efficiency, as well as in biomass accumulation and partition. In sum, exposure of soybean plants to 10 μM KI improved tolerance to water deficit, and up to this concentration, there is no evidence of phytotoxicity in plants grown under adequate irrigation.
