Acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (ACLE) is closely associated with systemic symptoms in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study aimed to identify potential biomarkers for ACLE and explore their association with SLE to enable early prediction of ACLE and identify potential treatment targets for the future. In total, 185 SLE-diagnosed patients were enrolled and categorized into two groups: those with ACLE and those without cutaneous involvement. After conducting logistic regression analysis of the differentiating factors, we concluded that tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is an independent risk factor for ACLE. Analysis of the receiver operating characteristic revealed an area under the curve of 0.716 for TNF-α. Additionally, both TNF-α and ACLE are positively correlated with disease activity. TNF-α shows promise as a biomarker for ACLE, and in SLE patients, ACLE may serve as a clear indicator of moderate-to-severe disease activity.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS
Liver injury is one of the common complications of paraquat (PQ) poisoning, but whether the degree of liver injury is related to patient prognosis is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate whether liver injury was a risk factor for death in PQ-poisoned patients.
METHODS
We conducted a retrospective cohort study of PQ-poisoned patients from the past 10 years (2011-2020) from a large tertiary academic medical centre in China. PQ-poisoned patients were divided into a normal liver function group (n = 580) and a liver injury group (n = 60). Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was then performed.
RESULTS
A total of 640 patients with PQ poisoning were included in this study. To reduce the impact of bias, dose of PQ, urinary PQ concentration and time from poisoning to hospital admission were matched between the two groups. A 3:1 PSM analysis was performed, ultimately including 240 patients. Compared with the normal liver function group, patients in the liver injury group were older, had a higher R value ([ALT/ULN]/[ALP/ULN]) (p < .001) and had a higher mortality rate. Cox regression analysis showed that there was no significant association between alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin levels and hazard of death, but age, PQ dose, creatine kinase isoenzyme, creatine kinase, white blood cell count, neutrophil percentage and lymphocyte percentage were associated with mortality in patients with PQ poisoning.
CONCLUSIONS
The occurrence of liver injury within 48 h after PQ poisoning was a risk factor for mortality, and such liver injury was likely of a hepatocellular nature. Age, PQ dose, creatine kinase isoenzyme and white blood cell count were positively correlated with mortality, while creatine kinase, percentage of neutrophils and lymphocytes were inversely correlated.

NAC-domain transcription factors (TFs) are plant-specific transcriptional regulators playing crucial roles in plant secondary cell wall (SCW) biosynthesis. SCW is important for plant growth and development, maintaining plant morphology, providing rigid support, ensuring material transportation and participating in plant stress responses as a protective barrier. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying SCW in eggplant have not been thoroughly explored. In this study, the NAC domain TFs SmNST1 and SmNST2 were cloned from the eggplant line 'Sanyue qie'. SmNST1 and SmNST2 expression levels were the highest in the roots and stems. Subcellular localization analysis showed that they were localized in the cell membrane and nucleus. Their overexpression in transgenic tobacco showed that SmNST1 promotes SCW thickening. The expression of a set of SCW biosynthetic genes for cellulose, xylan and lignin, which regulate SCW formation, was increased in transgenic tobacco. Bimolecular fluorescence and luciferase complementation assays showed that SmNST1 interacted with SmNST2 in vivo. Yeast one-hybrid, electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and Dual-luciferase reporter assays showed that SmMYB26 directly bound to the SmNST1 promoter and acted as an activator. SmNST1 and SmNST2 interact with the SmMYB108 promoter and repress SmMYB108 expression. Altogether, we showed that SmNST1 positively regulates SCW formation, improving our understanding of SCW biosynthesis transcriptional regulation.

PURPOSE
The aim of the study is to determine the effect of of hot footbaths on the pain, anxiety, sleep, and comfort levels of patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
DESIGN
The study is a randomized controlled designed.
METHODS
This study was conducted in surgery clinic of a university hospital between January 2022 and November 2022. The research was completed with 54 patients in the experimental group and 54 patients in the control group.
FINDINGS
The mean state anxiety score and VAS-Sleep score of the patients in the experimental group 120 minutes after the application was 31.07±4.70 and 612.62±82.37, respectively, which was statistically significantly lower than that of the patients in the control group (P<0.05). On the other hand, at the 120th minutes after the application, the mean VAS-Comfort scores of the patients in the experimental group were statistically significantly higher than those of the patients in the control group (P<0.05). A positive relationship was found between the mean VAS-Pain and VAS-Sleep scores of the patients in the experimental group, and a significant negative relationship was found between the mean VAS-Comfort and state anxiety scores.
CONCLUSIONS
Foot bath is effective in reducing the pain and anxiety levels of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery.

OBJECTIVE
The use of composite chondromucosal nasal septal flaps (ccNSF) has been demonstrated to be effective in cadaveric studies for the anterior skull base and the orbit. However, their application in the clinical setting remains unexplored. Our study aims to introduce a new method for treating palatal defects using ccNSF. Additionally, we studied the average NSF area and compared it to the average palate area.
METHODS
We collected 108 CT scans from the medical records of patients without head and neck pathologies from a tertiary medical institution. We quantified the quadrangular (septal) cartilage and palate areas. Furthermore, we included a clinical case in which we used the ccNSF for the palatal defect reconstruction. This was to compare the mean area between the palate and the septal cartilage.
RESULTS
The ccNSF covered the palatal defect without any significant complications for the first 9 months of follow-up. A total of 102 CT scans met the inclusion criteria and were measured. We found that the mean quadrangular cartilage had a length of 2.50 (±0.52) cm, a width of 2.28 (±0.51) cm, and an area of 5.43 (±1.68) cm. The mean palate length was 2.73 (±0.44) cm, with a width of 3.13 (±0.34) cm, and area of 7.87 (±1.43) cm.
CONCLUSIONS
The ccNSF proved successful in palatal defect reconstruction, resulting in positive outcomes and no major complications until the 9-month follow-up. The ccNSF is a useful flap that avoids the use of free flap transfer and its associated morbidities.

The life expectancy of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) has increased, yet we have noted that development of a typical Alzheimer disease dementia syndrome is uncommon. We hypothesized that Alzheimer disease pathology is uncommon in MS patients. In 100 MS patients, the rate of amyloid-β plasma biomarker positivity was approximately half the rate in 300 non-MS controls matched on age, sex, apolipoprotein E proteotype, and cognitive status. Interestingly, most MS patients who did have amyloid-β pathology had features atypical for MS at diagnosis. These results support that MS is associated with reduced Alzheimer disease risk, and suggest new avenues of research. ANN NEUROL 2024.

BACKGROUND
The expression and function of coexpression genes of M1 macrophage in cervical cancer have not been identified. And the CXCL9-expressing tumour-associated macrophage has been poorly reported in cervical cancer.
METHODS
To clarify the regulatory gene network of M1 macrophage in cervical cancer, we downloaded gene expression profiles of cervical cancer patients in TCGA database to identify M1 macrophage coexpression genes. Then we constructed the protein-protein interaction networks by STRING database and performed functional enrichment analysis to investigate the biological effects of the coexpression genes. Next, we used multiple bioinformatics databases and experiments to overall investigate coexpression gene CXCL9, including western blot assay and immunohistochemistry assay, GeneMANIA, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, Xenashiny, TISCH2, ACLBI, HPA, TISIDB, GSCA and cBioPortal databases.
RESULTS
There were 77 positive coexpression genes and 5 negative coexpression genes in M1 macrophage. The coexpression genes in M1 macrophage participated in the production and function of chemokines and chemokine receptors. Especially, CXCL9 was positively correlated with M1 macrophage infiltration levels in cervical cancer. CXCL9 expression would significantly decrease and high CXCL9 levels were linked to good prognosis in the cervical cancer tumour patients, it manifestly expressed in blood immune cells, and was positively related to immune checkpoints. CXCL9 amplification was the most common type of mutation. The CXCL9 gene interaction network could regulate immune-related signalling pathways, and CXCL9 amplification was the most common mutation type in cervical cancer. Meanwhile, CXCL9 may had clinical significance for the drug response in cervical cancer, possibly mediating resistance to chemotherapy and targeted drug therapy.
CONCLUSION
Our findings may provide new insight into the M1 macrophage coexpression gene network and molecular mechanisms in cervical cancer, and indicated that M1 macrophage association gene CXCL9 may serve as a good prognostic gene and a potential therapeutic target for cervical cancer therapies.

The fight against malignant neoplasms is one of the most important problems of health care in Ukraine; its relevance is due to the continuous growth of oncological morbidity in the population, the complexity of timely diagnosis and treatment, high cost, as well as quite high levels of disability and mortality of such patients. Gastric cancer, which remains one of the most common and deadly neoplasms in the world, occupies one of the leading positions among cancer. Aim - scientifically substantiate and develop a model for improving the organization of prevention of malignant neoplasms of the gastric. A study of performance indicators of oncology health care facilities and a survey of respondents was conducted: 180 respondents of patients with gastric cancer and precancerous diseases of the stomach using medical-statistical, sociological methods and questionnaires. A functional and organizational model for improving the prevention of malignant neoplasms of the stomach has been scientifically substantiated and developed. The features of the proposed model were the inclusion in it, in addition to the previously existing, innovative elements (an algorithm for early diagnosis and prevention of negative consequences of malignant neoplasms of the stomach at the level of primary medical care, reminders for primary medical care doctors regarding monitoring of risk factors and predictors of malignancy of precancerous stomach diseases, the allocation of a dynamic monitoring group due to the increased risk of precancerous gastric diseases becoming oncological), as well as previously existing, but functionally changed components (optimization of the functions of the primary care physician in relation to the information provision of the patient and his relatives; monitoring of risk factors for precancerous and cancerous stomach diseases, control and accounting for the implementation of the recommendations of specialist doctors and rehabilitation specialists), the interaction between which provided the model with a qualitatively new focus on achieving its strategic goal - preventing the occurrence and progression of the development of malignant neoplasms of the gastric. The proposed functional and organizational model will lead to a positive medical and social effect for the improvement of the organization of the prevention of gastric cancer in the main areas: systematicity, comprehensiveness and preventive direction. Its implementation will lead to an increase in early detection, coverage of dynamic monitoring of patients, as well as a projected economic effect due to a decrease in the specific weight of neglected forms of gastric cancer, improvement in survival and reduction in mortality.

The global medical problem has become the COVID-19 pandemic since 2019, which represents one of the most difficult medical realities. One of the crucial medical hypotheses is the effect of SARS-Cov-2 infection on mental health that requires creation of effective psychological and psychiatric management of such patients. In connection with described above, we set the task of our research to develop and test a complex of psychological interventions in the system of psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with cognitive disorders against the background of the endured SARS-Cov-2 infection. The material of the study was the data obtained after passing the GAD-7 test for level of anxiety detection. The persons were divided into two groups with patients who have a history of severe acute respiratory syndrome of coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and non-suffered with coronavirus. At the end of the course of psychological rehabilitation, the GAD-7 test was repeated. It was established that people who have endured COVID-19 have a significantly higher level of anxiety during examining the initial level of anxiety by performing the GAD-7 test. So, if most of the examined had a minimal level of anxiety (68%) in the control group, then after COVID-19 the majority of patients had a moderate level of anxiety (64%), and 6% even had a high level of anxiety. A month after the initial testing, the group of patients (after COVID-19) who had not undergone psychological rehabilitation was still predominantly in the zone of moderate level of anxiety (54%). Going through psychological rehabilitation had positive consequences and the majority of patients moved into the minimal level of anxiety zone (58%). Majority of persons who endured COVID-19 suffer moderate level of anxiety with GAD-7 test 10.12±0.43 (6.92±0.33 for non-suffered). Psychological rehabilitation could reduce it to 7.24±0.36. The data obtained in the course of the work testify to the effectiveness of conducting a complex of psychotherapeutic interventions using cognitive training, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy in the system of psychosocial rehabilitation of patients with cognitive disorders against the background of COVID-19 with reducing level of anxiety. Results provide critical information on the efficacy of psychological rehabilitation for persons who experience persistent cognitive deficits after COVID-19.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an acquired multisystem autoimmune disease characterized clinically by vascular thrombotic events, or pregnancy complications or nonthrombotic manifestations in the presence of persistently elevated antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL). We highlighted our case, which fulfills both the old APS classification criteria (1999,2006) _and the newest one (2023). The latest demonstrates very high specificity (99%) for APS diagnosis, compared to the older revised Sapporo criteria (86%). According to the new recommendation, the criteria are classified into 6 clinical and 2 laboratory domains, patient must accumulate at least 3 points from each clinical and laboratory domains. Our patient was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome in 2018, as she had transient ischemic attack (TIA) without any changes on magnetic resonance tomography (MRI), and laboratory tests revealed triple positive antiphospholipid antibodies (12 points). Additional diagnostic tests were performed_thrombocytopenia, aortic valve thickening was noteworthy (4 points). Thus, TIA which had similar strength to stroke as the manifestation of arterial thrombosis by old guidelines, it is rejected according to the new recommendation, so the patient lost minimum 2 points; On the other hand, the current criteria added nonthrombotic events as weighted clinical domains, which gave the points to our patient. In conclusion we fully and highly specifically confirmed APS diagnosis as ACR/EULAR suggests.
