Supramolecular hydrogels based on low-molecular-weight compounds are a unique class of so-called "soft" materials, formed by weak non-covalent interactions between precursors at their millimolar concentrations. Due to the variety of structures that can be formed using different low-molecular-weight gelators, they are widely used in various fields of technology and medicine. In this study, we report for the first time an unusual self-assembly process of mixing a hydrosol obtained from L-cysteine and silver nitrate (cysteine-silver sol-CSS) with sodium halides. Modern instrumental techniques such as viscosimetry, UV spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential measurements, SEM and EDS identified that adding fluoride anions to CSS is able to form stable hydrogels of a thixotropic nature, while Cl, Br and I lead to precipitation. The self-assembly process proceeds using a narrow concentration range of F. An increase in the fluoride anion content in the system leads to a change in the gel network morphology from elongated structures to spherical ones. This fact is reflected in a decrease in the gel viscosity and a number of gel-sol-gel transition cycles. The mechanism of F's interaction with hydrosol includes the condensation of anions on the positive surface of the CSS nanoparticles, their binding via electrostatic forces and the formation of a resulting gel carcass. In vitro analysis showed that the hydrogels suppressed human squamous carcinoma cells at a micromolar sample concentration. The obtained soft gels could have potential applications against cutaneous malignancy and as carriers for fluoride anion and other bioactive substance delivery.

Simple low-cost, nontoxic, environmentally friendly plant-extract-based polymer films play an important role in their application in medicine, the food industry, and agriculture. The addition of silver nanoparticles to the composition of these films enhances their antimicrobial capabilities and makes them suitable for the treatment and prevention of infections. In this study, polymer-based gels and films (AgRonPVA) containing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were produced at room temperature from fresh red onion peel extract ("Ron"), silver nitrate, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Silver nanoparticles were synthesized directly in a polymer matrix, which was irradiated by UV light. The presence of nanoparticles was approved by analyzing characteristic local surface plasmon resonance peaks occurring in UV-Vis absorbance spectra of irradiated experimental samples. The proof of evidence was supported by the results of XRD and EDX measurements. The diffusion-based method was applied to investigate the antimicrobial activity of several types of microbes located in the environment of the produced samples. Bacteria ATCC 29213, ATCC BAA 747, and ATCC 15442; yeasts CBS 8836 and ATCC 90028; and microscopic fungi assays BTL G-33 and BTL G-38 were used in this investigation. The greatest effect was observed on Staphylococcus aureus, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria, defining these films as potential candidates for antimicrobial applications. The antimicrobial features of the films were less effective against fungi and the weakest against yeasts.

Understanding nitrogen (N) uptake rates respect to nutrient availability and the biogeography of phytoplankton communities is crucial for untangling the complexities of marine ecosystems and the physical, biological, and chemical forces shaping them. In the summer of 2016, we conducted measurements of bulk microbial uptake rates for six N-labeled substrates: nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, urea, cyanate, and dissolve free amino acids across distinct marine provinces, including the continental shelf of the Mid-and South Atlantic Bights (MAB and SAB), the Slope Sea, and the Gulf Stream, marking the first instance of simultaneously measuring six different N uptake rates in this dynamic region. Total measured N uptake rates were lowest in the Gulf Stream followed by the SAB. Notably, the MAB exhibited significantly higher N uptake rates compared to the SAB, likely due to the excess levels of pre-existing phosphorus present in the MAB. Together, urea and nitrate uptake contributed approximately 50% of the total N uptake across the study region. Although cyanate uptake rates were consistently low, they accounted for up to 11% of the total measured N uptake at some Gulf Stream stations. Phytoplankton groups were identified based on specific pigment markers, revealing a dominance of diatoms in the shelf community, while , , and pico-eukaryotes dominated in oligotrophic Gulf Stream waters. The reported uptake rates in this study were mostly in agreement with previous studies conducted in coastal waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. This study suggests there are distinct regional patterns of N uptake in this physically dynamic region, correlating with nutrient availability and phytoplankton community composition. These findings contribute valuable insights into the intricate interplay of biological and chemical factors shaping N dynamics in disparate marine ecosystems.

An efficient and straightforward one-pot tandem synthesis of 3-arylindan-1-ones was consummated through silver nitrate-promoted C-C coupling of simple indane-1,3-dione with arylboronic acid 1,3-indanedione monotosylhydrazone under microwave conditions. The resulting series of 3-arylindan-1-ones exhibited impressive yields, surpassing those achievable with traditional methods and requiring a shorter time frame. This innovative approach significantly accelerated the synthesis of biologically active compounds such as (+)-indatraline (Lu 19-005) and several other industrially relevant substances.

A Comparative Evaluation of Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Efficacy of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles and Chemically Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Against Enterococcus faecalis: An In Vitro Study.
Introduction Effective root canal cleaning and sealing are essential for a successful endodontic procedure. For the purpose of disinfecting root canals, both herbal and non-herbal medications are recommended. This study aimed to analyze the antimicrobial and cytotoxic properties of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized from /neem and chemically synthesized AgNPs from trisodium citrate (TSC) against oral pathogens to be further used as an irrigant in endodontic treatment. Materials and methods To synthesize AgNPs, powdered fresh leaves were weighed, added to double distilled water, heated for 30 minutes, and then combined with silver nitrate solution. TSC was also used to create TSC AgNPs. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ocular observation, and the ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis) spectrum were used to characterize the AgNPs. Studies were conducted on the extract's characteristics, including its cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity. Results The hue shift and peak on the UV-vis spectrophotometer were signs that AgNPs were forming. The XRD pattern showed that the sample included crystalline AgNPs, mostly spherical ones. By using SEM, the presence of AgNPs was also verified. AgNPs that were synthesized showed antimicrobial efficacy against . Compared to chemically synthesized AgNPs, AgNPs showed lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values, a bigger zone of inhibition (ZOI), and less cytotoxic action. Conclusion This study demonstrates the minimal cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity of AgNPs against . This suggests that they might also be employed as root canal cleaners. Before experimenting with animals or cell lines in clinical trials for endodontic treatment, further research should be done.

According to an estimate, 30% to 40%, of global fruit are wasted, leading to post harvest losses and contributing to economic losses ranging from $10 to $100 billion worldwide. Among, all fruits the discarded portion of oranges is around 20%. A novel and value addition approach to utilize the orange peels is in nanoscience. In the present study, a synthesis approach was conducted to prepare the metallic nanoparticles (copper and silver); by utilizing food waste (Citrus plant peels) as bioactive reductants. In addition, the Citrus sinensis extracts showed the reducing activity against metallic salts copper chloride and silver nitrate to form Cu-NPs (copper nanoparticles) and Ag-NPs (Silver nanoparticles). The in vitro potential of both types of prepared nanoparticles was examined against plant pathogenic bacteria Erwinia carotovora (Pectobacterium carotovorum) and pathogens effect on human health Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Moreover, the in vivo antagonistic potential of both types of prepared nanoparticles was examined by their interaction with against plant (potato slices). Furthermore, additional antipathogenic (antiviral and antifungal) properties were also examined. The statistical analysis was done to explain the level of significance and antipathogenic effectiveness among synthesized Ag-NPs and Cu-NPs. The surface morphology, elemental description and size of particles were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy and zeta sizer (in addition polydispersity index and zeta potential). The justification for the preparation of particles was done by UV-Vis Spectroscopy (excitation peaks at 339 nm for copper and 415 nm for silver) and crystalline nature was observed by X-ray diffraction. Hence, the prepared particles are quite effective against soft rot pathogens in plants and can also be used effectively in some other multifunctional applications such as bioactive sport wear, surgical gowns, bioactive bandages and wrist or knee compression bandages, etc.

BACKGROUND
The human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) enzyme, encoded by the hTERT gene, synthesizes protective telomeric sequences on chromosomes and plays a fundamental role in cancer formation. Methylation of the hTERT gene has an upregulatory effect, increasing hTERT enzyme synthesis and allowing continuous tumor cell division.
OBJECTIVE
In a group of patients with breast cancer, we aimed to analyze the methylation status of hTERT in the tumor, surrounding tissue, and circulating free deoxyribonucleic acid (cfDNA) of blood collected on the day of mastectomy and then approximately one year later.
DESIGN AND SETTING
A prospective study was conducted at a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
METHODS
Samples were collected from 15 women with breast cancer on the day of mastectomy and approximately one year postoperatively. cfDNA was analyzed by sodium bisulfite conversion, followed by polymerase chain reaction, electrophoresis, and silver nitrate staining.
RESULTS
Methylation of hTERT was detected in the tumors and surrounding tissues of all 15 patients. Five patients displayed hTERT methylation in the cfDNA from the blood of the first collection. Of the ten patients who returned for the second collection, three showed methylation. Two patients with methylation in the first collection did not display methylation in the second collection. One patient with no methylation in the first collection displayed methylation in the second collection, and one patient had a diminished level of methylation in the second collection.
CONCLUSION
Only one-third of patients displayed methylation in their cfDNA, which may be related to the success of chemotherapy.

Dinitrogen pentoxide (NO), the anhydride of nitric acid, was synthesised by Henri Étienne Sainte-Claire Deville in Paris in 1849 using silver nitrate and chlorine gas. Herein, we revisit, optimise, and modify Deville's method using photocatalysis to enable a safe, clean, practical, and reproducible alternative for NO synthesis in quantitative yields. Moreover, it is predicted that the modifications can accommodate an industrial scale-up, but the silver chloride generated must be recycled.

Comparative study on the potential of microalgae consortia and green-synthesized silver nanoparticles using microalgae (M-AgNP) consortia for the treatment of kitchen grey water was investigated in this study. The microalgae consortia consisting of four species, viz., Chlorella sp., Scenedesmus sp., Coelastrum sp., and Pediastrum sp. were isolated from a local fish pond and the silver nanoparticles were synthesized with the same. Thus, synthesized silver nanoparticles exhibited a distinctive yellowish-brown colour and spherical morphology. Extensive qualitative and quantitative characterization techniques were employed to determine their size and morphology. Both microalgae consortia and M-AgNP were used separately for the treatment of kitchen grey water under experimental conditions. The synthesized silver nanoparticles demonstrated promising potential for domestic wastewater treatment, leading to substantial reductions in various parameters: total dissolved solids (29.6%), conductivity (49.4%), chemical oxygen demand (64.6%), and heavy metals (arsenic-63.5%, zinc-45.6%, cadmium-88%, copper-60.52%, and lead-80.82%). Notably, microalgae exhibited superior removal efficiency for nitrate (83.1%), sulphate (70.3%), and phosphate (96.5%) compared to microalgae-synthesized silver nanoparticles. This study underscores the effective utilization of both microalgae and microalgae-synthesized silver nanoparticles for wastewater treatment applications.

This study explores the dynamic self-assembly and disassembly of hypervalent iodine-based macrocycles (HIMs) guided by secondary bonding interactions. The reversible disassembly and reassembly of HIMs are facilitated through anion binding via the addition of tetrabutylammonium (TBA) salts or removal of the anion by the addition of silver nitrate. The association constants for HIM monomers with TBA(Cl) and TBA(Br) are calculated and show a correlation with the strength of the iodine-anion bond. A unique tetracoordinate hypervalent iodine-based compound was identified as the disassembled monomer. Last, the study reveals the dynamic bonding nature of these macrocycles in solution, allowing for rearrangement and participation in dynamic bonding chemistry.
