Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
BACKGROUND
This crossover clinical study aimed to evaluate and compare masticatory performance and patient satisfaction for patients rehabilitated with conventional heat-cured acrylic resin and 3D-printed mandibular implant overdentures retained with bar attachment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Sixteen completely edentulous healthy participants received new conventional dentures. In the mandible, four interforaminal implants were inserted. Following the stage of osseointegration, the bar was constructed in a trapezoidal configuration. Each patient randomly received the following overdentures using a crossover design: (1) conventional heat-cured acrylic resin overdenture and (2) 3D-printed overdenture (developed by scanning of mandibular conventional overdenture). The masticatory performance was assessed by conducting a two-colour mixing ability test at 5, 10, 20, 30, and 50 masticatory cycles. Moreover, the McGill Denture Satisfaction Questionnaire (MDSQ) was employed to assess patient satisfaction. Evaluation was performed after 3 months of using each overdenture. Paired sample t tests were used to compare the masticatory performance and MDSQ scores of patients for both prostheses.
RESULTS
No significant difference in masticatory performance was reported between the two types of overdentures. Regarding patient satisfaction, only the esthetic aspect was significantly better for conventionally processed overdentures than for printed overdentures. Insignificant differences were observed regarding other MDSQ items between the two overdentures.
CONCLUSION
Within this clinical study, 3D-printed implant overdentures showed promising results in terms of chewing efficiency and patient satisfaction compared to conventionally fabricated implant overdentures.

Prosthodontics is a dental subspecialty that includes the preparation of dental prosthetics for missing or damaged teeth. It increasingly uses computer-assisted technologies for planning and preparing dental prosthetics. This study aims to present the findings from a systematic review of publications on artificial intelligence (AI) in prosthodontics to identify current trends and future opportunities. The review question was "What are the applications of AI in prosthodontics and how good is their performance in prosthodontics?" Electronic searching in the Web of Science, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Cochrane Library was conducted. The search was limited to full text from January 2012 to January 2024. Quadas-2 was used for assessing quality and potential risk of bias for the selected studies. A total of 1925 studies were identified in the initial search. After removing the duplicates and applying exclusion criteria, a total of 30 studies were selected for this review. Results of the Quadas-2 assessment of included studies found that a total of 18.3% of studies were identified as low risk of bias studies, whereas 52.6% and 28.9% of included studies were identified as studies with high and unclear risk of bias, respectively. Although they are still developing, AI models have already shown promise in the areas of dental charting, tooth shade selection, automated restoration design, mapping the preparation finishing line, manufacturing casting optimization, predicting facial changes in patients wearing removable prostheses, and designing removable partial dentures.

BACKGROUND
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) frequently presents with oral manifestations, including gingival inflammation, loose teeth, and mouth ulcers; however, the causal connections between these conditions remain unclear. This study aims to explore the genetic correlations and causal relationships between RA and prevalent oral phenotypes.
METHODS
Using summary data from genome-wide association studies of European populations, a cross-trait linkage disequilibrium score regression was conducted to estimate the genetic correlations between RA and six oral phenotypes. Subsequently, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach was employed to assess the causal relationships, corroborated by various sensitivity analyses. Heterogeneity was addressed through the RadialMR method, while potential covariates were corrected using the multivariable MR approach.
RESULTS
A significant negative genetic correlation was detected between RA and denture usage (r = -0.192, = 4.88 × 10). Meanwhile, a heterogenous causal relationship between RA and mouth ulcers was observed (OR = 1.027 [1.005-1.05], = 0.016, = 4.69 × 10), which remained robust across sensitivity analyses. After excluding outlier variants, the results demonstrated robustly consistent (OR = 1.021 [1.008-1.035], = 1.99 × 10, = 0.044). However, upon adjusting for covariates such as smoking, alcohol consumption, body mass index, and obesity, the significance diminished, revealing no evidence to support independent genetic associations.
CONCLUSION
Genetically predicted RA increases the risk of mouth ulcers, and a negative genetic correlation is identified between RA and denture use. The observed heterogeneity suggests that shared immunological mechanisms and environmental factors may play significant roles. These findings highlight the importance of targeted dental management strategies for RA patients. Further clinical guidelines are required to improve oral health among vulnerable RA patients.

INTRODUCTION
Dental implantation has emerged as an efficient substitute for missing teeth, which is essential for restoring oral function and aesthetics. Compared to traditional denture repair approaches, dental implants offer better stability and sustainability. The position, angle, and depth of dental implants are crucial factors for their long-term success and necessitate high-precision operation and technical support.
METHOD
We propose an integrated dual-arm high-precision oral implant surgery navigation positioning system and a corresponding control strategy. Compared with traditional implant robots, the integrated dual-arm design greatly shortens the preparation time before surgery and simplifies the operation process. We propose a novel control flow and module for the proposed structure, including an Occluded Target Tracking Module (OTTM) for occlusion tracking, a Planting Plan Development Module (PPDM) for generating implant plans, and a Path Formulation Module (PFM) for controlling the movement path of the two robot arms.
RESULT
Under the coordinated control of the aforementioned modules, the robot achieved excellent accuracy in clinical trials. The average angular error and entry point error for five patients who underwent implant surgery using the proposed robot were 2.1° and 0.39 mm, respectively.
CONCLUSION
In essence, our study introduces an integrated dual-arm high-precision navigation system for oral implant surgery, resolving issues like lengthy preoperative preparation and static surgical planning. Clinical results confirm its efficacy, emphasizing its accuracy and precision in guiding oral implant procedures.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is indeed one of the most common types of oral cancer, typically affecting individuals over the age of 50. It primarily originates from the squamous epithelial cells lining the oral cavity. While it is relatively rare in individuals under 40 years old, it can still occur, albeit less frequently in that age group. Risk factors for developing OSCC include tobacco use (smoking or chewing), excessive alcohol consumption, chronic irritation (such as from poorly fitting dentures), human papillomavirus (HPV), infection, and certain dietary foods. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes and reducing the mortality associated with this type of cancer. This report describes a case of OSCC, staged T2 N0 M0, involving the right buccal mucosa of a 51-year-old male patient. The patient reported intense pain in an ulcer on the right side of his cheek. This report focuses on the etiological factors and a brief literature review of squamous cell carcinoma.

OBJECTIVES
Digital denture fabrication became an alternative method to conventional denture fabrication. However reviewing the antimicrobial performance of newly introduced digital fabrication methods in comparison to the conventional method is neglected. Aim of study: this review was to compare the antiadherence properties of various CAD-CAM subtractive (milled), additive (3D printed) conventional denture base resins. In order to answer the developed PICO question: "Does CAD-CAM milled and 3D printed denture base resins have microbiological antiadherence properties over the conventional ones?" We included comparative studies on digitally fabricated Denture base resins with conventionally fabricated one in term of microbial adhesion.
METHODS
All studies investigated the microbial adherence to CAD-CAM milled and 3D printed denture base resins in comparison to conventional were searched in the PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Scopus databases up to December 2023.
RESULTS
Fifteen studies have been investigated the microbial adhesion to milled and 3D printed denture base resins. CAD-CAM milled resins significantly decreased the microbial adhesion when compared with the conventional resins and 3D printed resins, while the later showed a high tendency for microbial adhesion. The addition of antifungal agents to 3D printed resins significantly reduced adhesion. In terms of 3D printing parameters, printing orientation affected adherence while printing technology had no effect on microbial adhesion.
CONCLUSION
Denture base materials and fabrication methods significantly affect the microbial adhesion. CAD-CAM milled denture base resins demonstrated low microbial adhesion. 3D-printed resins showed high tendency for adhesion. The antiadherent properties of 3D-printed resins can be improved by incorporating antifungal agents or changing the printing parameters, but further investigations are required to validate these modifications.

BACKGROUND
Nanoparticles are increasingly used in dentistry for various applications, including enhancing the mechanical properties of denture base resins. This study aimed to comprehensively review and analyze the research landscape of nanoparticles and their effect on the flexural strength of denture base resins to identify key research areas and trends and to highlight the importance of collaboration between authors and institutions.
METHODS
A Bibliometric Analysis was conducted using the Keywords "Nanoparticle*" AND "Denture*" OR "CAD/CAM." The literature search from the WOS database was restricted to the publication years 2011 to 2022.
RESULTS
Key findings encompass an increase in research publications but a decline in citations. Saudi Arabia, China, and Iraq led this research, with specific institutions excelling. Notable journals with high impact factors were identified. Authorship patterns show variations in citation impact. Additionally, keyword analysis revealed that current research trends offer insights into influential authors and their networks.
CONCLUSIONS
The analysis of nanoparticles and denture base resins reveals a dynamic and evolving landscape that emphasizes the importance of collaboration, staying current with research trends, and conducting high-quality research in this ever-evolving domain.

Dental Implant Placement in the Maxilla Following Ridge Augmentation with Free Iliac Bone Graft and Oral Rehabilitation with Fixed Prosthesis: a Three-Year Follow-Up Study.
OBJECTIVES
This prospective follow-up study aimed to evaluate the stability values of tapered titanium implants inserted into maxilla following ridge augmentation with free iliac bone graft and crestal bone changes up to three years of follow-up.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A total of seven patients with 34 tapered titanium implants in the maxilla with fixed protheses were enrolled in this prospective follow-up study. Patients with previously augmented maxillae using free iliac bone grafts were included. Implant stability was measured (Osstell™) for up to three months of healing. Peri-implant bone resorption was measured using radiographic images taken immediately after implant surgery and after three years. Using a clinical and radiological examination survival and success rates were evaluated.
RESULTS
After implant insertion, the stability was 60.93, whereas the stability increased significantly (P = 0.0192) to 64.97 at implant exposure (after 3 months). The mean bone loss around the implants was 1.13 mm after three years. Clinical parameters revealed a mean sulcus depth of 2.76 (1.18) mm and a bleeding on probing score of 0.29 (0.58). The survival rate was 100%, and the success rate was 67.65% at the end of the study.
CONCLUSIONS
Tapered implants can be used in free iliac bone grafts for fixed dentures. Implant stability values were high after insertion. In terms of a success rate of 67.65%, the patient's jaw reconstruction indicated a reduced implant success when comparing the data with healthy patients without any augmentation procedures.

BACKGROUND
In this study, the antimicrobial activity of three different cleanser tablets on S. mutans and C. albicans adhesion to PMMA, polyamide and 3D printed resin was investigated.
METHODS
40 samples were prepared for PMMA (SR Triplex Hot), polyamide (Deflex) and 3D printed resin (PowerResins Denture) materials and divided into four subgroups for cleansers (Aktident™, Protefix™, Corega™ tablets and distilled water) (n = 5). After the surface preparations were completed, the samples were immersed separately in tubes containing the prepared microorganism suspension and incubated at 37˚C for 24 h. After the incubation, the samples were kept in the cleanser solutions. The samples were then transferred to sterile saline tubes. All the tubes were vortexed and 10 µl was taken from each of them. Sheep blood agar was inoculated for colony counting. The inoculated plates were incubated for 48 h for S. mutans and 24 h for C. albicans. After incubation, colonies observed on all plates were counted. Statistical analyses were done with three-way ANOVA and Tukey's multiple comparison test.
RESULTS
Polyamide material registered the highest colony count of S. mutans, whereas PMMA registered the lowest. Significant differences in S. mutans adherence (p = 0.002) were found between the three denture base materials, but no such difference in C. albicans adherence (p = 0.221) was identified between the specimens. All three cleanser tablets eliminated 98% of S. mutans from all the material groups. In all these groups, as well, the antifungal effect of Corega™ on C. albicans was significantly higher than those of the other two cleanser tablets.
CONCLUSIONS
According to the study's results, it may be better to pay attention to surface smoothness when using polyamide material to prevent microorganism retention. Cleanser tablets are clinically recommended to help maintain hygiene in removable denture users, especially Corega tablets that are more effective on C. albicans.

Giant cell tumors are rare, locally aggressive non-odontogenic osteolytic tumors associated with high rates of local recurrence. Treatment modalities are subject to considerable controversy, with successful outcomes hinging on achieving complete tumor elimination through thorough curettage. A 78-year-old male referred in December 2023 for a persistent mucosal lesion in the right maxilla under a removable denture. Clinical examination revealed a well-defined erythematous nodular lesion measuring approximately 3 cm along its long axis, localized on ridge quadrant 1. Biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of giant cell tumor. Although complete resection with healthy margins may be justified for aggressive lesions, it often results in significant morbidity and requires immediate defect reconstruction. Some studies suggest favorable long-term outcomes with guided bone regeneration (GBR). The bone lamina technique uses a xenogeneic cortical bone membrane to maintain space and promote bone healing. This surgical approach promotes bone healing through the mechanical support and biological properties of the lamina. The purpose of this case report is to evaluate the efficacy of the bone lamina technique and its role in managing complications following giant cell tumor resection.
