Borohydride crossover in anion exchange membrane (AEM) based direct borohydride fuel cells (DBFCs) impairs their performance and induces cathode catalyst poisoning. This study evaluates three non-precious metal catalysts, namely LaMnCoO (LMCO) perovskite, MnCoO (MCS) spinel, and Fe-N-C, for their application as cathode catalysts in DBFCs. The rotating disk electrode (RDE) testing shows significant borohydride tolerance of MCS. Moreover, MCS has exhibited exceptional stability in accelerated durability tests (ADTs), with a minimal reduction of 10 mV in half-wave potential. DFT calculations further reveal that these catalysts predominantly adsorb over , unlike commercial Pt/C which preferentially adsorbs . In DBFCs, MCS can deliver a peak power density of 1.5 W cm, and a 3% voltage loss after a 5 hours durability test. In contrast, LMCO and Fe-N-C have exhibited significantly lower peak power density and stability. The analysis of the TEM, XRD, and XPS results before and after the single-cell stability tests suggests that the diminished stability of LMCO and Fe-N-C catalysts is due to catalyst detachment from carbon supports, resulting from the nanoparticle aggregation during the high-temperature preparation process. Such findings suggest that MCS can effectively mitigate the fuel crossover challenge inherent in DBFCs, thus enhancing its viability for practical application.

In this paper, the stress-strain curves of TiAlNb are established based on uniaxial impact tests over wide ranges of temperature and strain rate. The TiAlNb exhibited the work hardening effect but did not show an obvious yield stage during a quasi-static compression test. In the SHPB test, an obvious temperature softening effect was found, the strain rate strengthening effect was detected when the strain rate was 4000-8000 s, and the strain rate softening effect was detected in the range of 8000-12,000 s. A function describing the effect of strain rate on the strain rate strengthening parameters under various temperatures was proposed to modify the basic J-C constitutive model. The relative errors between the experimental measured value and predicted values in various experimental conditions with a modified J-C model were less than 5.0%. The results verified that the modified J-C model could accurately describe the dynamic mechanical properties of TiAlNb at high temperatures and strain rates. The research could help to illustrate the cutting mechanism and finite element simulation of TiAlNb alloy.

Traditional ACSR overhead wires, which consist of a high-strength steel core and several layers of aluminium wires, are currently the most popular overhead line conductor (OHL) design globally. Operating conditions, particularly operating under varying stresses from Karman vortices, lead to the fatigue cracking of wires of the outer layer, followed by wires of the inner layers. Karman vortices are formed by the detachment of a laminar wind stream flowing around the conductor, which causes vibrations in the conductor called wind or aeolian oscillations. Aluminium wires are manufactured using standard batch material drawing technology. Although the fatigue strength of such wires is not standardised, there are various criteria for evaluating this characteristic, as well as established limits on the number of cycles needed to break the first wires of the outer layer. Fatigue strength also strongly depends on the geometric structure of the wire and its operating conditions. The article analyses the influence of the mechanical condition of aluminium wires used in ACSR cables on their fatigue strength. We then present results from aluminium wire fatigue tests conducted on a specially constructed test rig. In addition, fatigue cracks were interpreted using scanning microscopy.

: Swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (SS-AS-OCT) is a suitable examination for the vitreolenticular interface. : In a prospective study using Anterion (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany), 102 eyes of 102 patients were examined in pupil dilation, preoperatively and 6 times over 1-year follow-up. Preoperatively anterior hyaloid membrane (AHM) visibility was determined with Imaging App with high reliability. Postoperatively capsular bag-AHM distance was measured on six points by using Metrics App. : The AHM was visible in 18.6% preoperatively and postoperatively as well (Group 1), 49% of the preoperatively adherent AHMs became visible (Group 2A), 32.4% remained attached (Group 2B). Group 1: the average deepest point on the first day was 782.5 ± 324.1 microns, and it significantly differed from the later follow-up values. Group 2A: the average deepest value was 184.1 ± 220.1 microns, and there was no statistically significant difference between the postoperative visit values. The difference between the groups was statistically significant at every location and at each time point. : AS-SS-OCT can be used to check BS both preoperatively (with limitations) and postoperatively.

Ophthalmic three-dimensional (3D) digital surgery can reproduce high-definition surgical images; however, 3D digital surgery is limited by recording capacities. We examined the relationship between the minimum image quality required to reproduce surgical images and recording capacity. Patients who underwent simultaneous vitrectomy and cataract surgery by the same surgeon using a 3D digital surgery system at Juntendo University Urayasu Hospital between February and October 2021 were evaluated. Various quality (Q) and frame rate (FR) settings were used for each case. Four vitreous surgeons evaluated the reproducibility of recorded images of macular manipulation for epiretinal membrane (ERM) and macular hole (MH) cases and those of peripheral retinal manipulation for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) cases. The video bitrate and minimum settings required to reproduce surgical images and factors affecting surgical image reproducibility were examined. A total of 129 eyes of 129 patients were observed. The minimum image quality required to reproduce surgical images was 11.67 Mbps. The Q and FR for periretinal processing and Q for macular manipulation affected surgical image reproducibility ( = 0.025, = 0.019, and = 0.07, respectively). The minimum recording settings required to obtain highly reproducible images were Q = 3 and FR = 40. The total file size for vitrectomy video recordings with these settings was as compact as 3.17 GB for 28 min. During 3D digital surgery, highly reproducible surgical images can be obtained with a small storage capacity using settings of at least Q = 3 and FR = 40.

Approximately 30% of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndromes are attributed to monogenic disorders that involve 27 genes. Mutations in family members have also been linked to nephrotic syndrome; however, the precise mechanism remains elusive. To investigate this, podocyte-specific knockout mice were generated to examine phenotypic changes. In the initial assessment under normal conditions, knockout mice showed no significant differences in the urinary albumin-creatinine ratio, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine levels, or histological features compared to controls. However, following kidney injury with adriamycin, podocyte-specific knockout mice exhibited a significantly higher albumin-creatinine ratio and a significantly greater sclerotic index than control mice. Electron microscopy revealed more extensive foot process effacement in the knockout mice than in control mice. In addition, -deficient human podocytes showed increased detachment and apoptosis following adriamycin exposure. These findings suggest that KANK1 may play a protective role in mitigating podocyte damage under pathological conditions.

Anoikis, a form of apoptosis resulting from the loss of cell-extracellular matrix interaction, is a significant barrier to cancer cell metastasis. However, the epigenetic regulation of this process remains to be explored. Here, we demonstrate that the histone deacetylase sirtuin 6 (SIRT6) plays a pivotal role in conferring anoikis resistance to colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. The protein level of SIRT6 is negatively correlated with anoikis in CRC cells. The overexpression of SIRT6 decreases while the knockdown of SIRT6 increases detachment-induced anoikis. Mechanistically, SIRT6 inhibits the transcription of N-myc downstream-regulated gene 1 (), a negative regulator of the AKT signaling pathway. We observed the up-regulation of SIRT6 in advanced-stage CRC samples. Together, our findings unveil a novel epigenetic program regulating the anoikis of CRC cells.

The immobilization of gold nanoparticle (AuNP) linear surface assemblies on polycarbonate (PC) melt surface via molding is investigated. The order of the particle assemblies is preserved during the molding process. The assemblies on PC exhibit plasmonic coupling features and dichroic properties. The structure of the assemblies is quantified based on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and image analysis data using an orientational order parameter. The transfer process from mold to melt shows high structural fidelity. The order parameter of around 0.98 reflects the orientation of the lines and remains unaffected, independent of the injection direction of the melt relative to the particle lines. This is discussed in the frame of fountain flow during injection molding. The particles were permanently fixed and withstood the injection molding process, detachment of the substrate, and extraction in boiling ethanol. The plasmonic particles coupled strongly within the dense nanoparticle lines to produce anisotropic optical properties, as quantified by dichroic ratios of 0.28 and 0.52 using ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) spectroscopy. AuNP line assemblies on a polymer surface may be a basis for plasmonic devices like surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors or a precursor for nanowires. Their embedding via injection molding constitutes an important link between particle-self-assembly approaches for optically functional surfaces and polymer processing techniques.

This study examines mental health service providers who provided care to evacuees during the Israel-Hamas conflict. Utilizing a phenomenological qualitative method, the research delves into the psychological impact on the participants' lived experiences. The sample included 25 mental health providers (13 female, age range 28-63, mean 42.4, SD 7.3; 15 psychologists and 10 social worker, average seniority 10.8 years, SD 5.2, range 2-18 years). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted between December 2023 and March 2024. The data analysis revealed a dual narrative: Participants paid a major personal price and experienced secondary traumatization manifesting in emotional detachment, physical symptoms, and heightened arousal. They also derived a profound sense of meaning and fulfillment from their work, contributing to personal and professional growth. These findings underscore the complexity of their experiences, which were marked by the challenges of secondary trauma and the resilience fostered through their work. This study emphasizes the importance of support systems, including social and familial networks and professional supervision, in navigating these challenges. This study has several limitations, including small sample size and the use of virtual interviews, suggesting the need for further research with a broader participant base and in different contexts.
