The ability to realize high-fidelity quantum communication is one of the many facets required to build generic quantum computing devices. In addition to quantum processing, sensing, and storage, transferring the resulting quantum states demands a careful design that finds no parallel in classical communication. Existing experimental demonstrations of quantum information transfer in solid-state quantum systems are largely confined to small chains with few qubits, often relying upon non-generic schemes. Here, by using a superconducting quantum circuit featuring thirty-six tunable qubits, accompanied by general optimization procedures deeply rooted in overcoming quantum chaotic behavior, we demonstrate a scalable protocol for transferring few-particle quantum states in a two-dimensional quantum network. These include single-qubit excitation, two-qubit entangled states, and two excitations for which many-body effects are present. Our approach, combined with the quantum circuit's versatility, paves the way to short-distance quantum communication for connecting distributed quantum processors or registers, even if hampered by inherent imperfections in actual quantum devices.

OBJECTIVE
Audio processors (AP) are the external components of hearing implants. User satisfaction with the performance and comfort of their AP is a critical factor in ensuring daily use, which leads to improved hearing outcomes. The aim of this study was to construct and validate an Arabic language translation of the APSQ for use among Arabic-speaking clinicians and patients.
DESIGN
The original APSQ was translated into the Arabic language using cross-cultural adaptation measures. The final questionnaire was administered to CI users in electronic form.
STUDY SAMPLE
117 CI users (64 female) participated. A total of 179 ears were assessed.
RESULTS
High levels of satisfaction with audio processors were observed among CI users. Item and scale analyses indicate that this version of the APSQ measure a homogeneous and valid construct.
CONCLUSION
The Arabic version of the APSQ captures user satisfaction with hearing implant audio processors.

BACKGROUND
An outbreak of Infantis was associated with the consumption of shredded pork products at multiple restaurants in Ontario between July 2021 and October 2021. The outbreak involved 36 case-patients from six public health units. The implicated shredded pork products were obtained from an unlicensed source. This is the largest reported outbreak of Infantis linked to restaurant food exposures in Ontario, with complexities related to the investigation of unlicensed foods. This article aims to describe the epidemiological, food safety and laboratory investigations that led to the identification and removal of the source of the outbreak from implicated restaurants, including the challenges encountered while investigating an outbreak related to an unlicensed source of food.
METHODS
Epidemiological and laboratory analyses were conducted to identify the source of the outbreak. Food safety investigations were conducted to ascertain the origin and distribution of the implicated food.
RESULTS
Whole-genome sequencing identified the outbreak strain from the isolates of 36 case-patients across six public health units in Ontario. Seven case-patients (19%) were hospitalized. No deaths were reported. The outbreak was linked to shredded pork products (i.e., rinds or skins) that were distributed by an unlicensed meat processor and consumed at various restaurants that served Southeast Asian fusion cuisine concentrated in the Greater Toronto Area. The product was removed from implicated restaurants.
CONCLUSION
Historically, foods from unlicensed sources have been implicated in multiple large outbreaks and continue to be of significant public health risk. The outbreak investigation emphasized the threat of food from unlicensed sources to the public's health and the importance of additional public health interventions to prevent outbreaks linked to unlicensed sources.

The value of precise dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) cut weight predictions to lamb allocation to cut plans is unknown. Lambs (n = 191) varying in carcase weight (HSCW) and GR (tissue depth over the 12th rib) were DEXA scanned and boned out to weigh retail cuts. Cut weights were predicted using HSCW; HSCW + GR; HSCW + DEXA and HSCW + DEXA image components in GLM models. DEXA improved cut weight predictions in most cuts (P < 0.05). A dataset of 10,000 carcases was then simulated using the associations between HSCW, GR and cut weights, before being truncated to 4500 lambs representing onel day's HSCW distribution. A lamb Carcase Optimisation Tool scenario was developed with 2-3 cut options per carcase section and cut weight thresholds applied to several cuts. Processing costs, market values and actual cut weights were input into the Optimiser to determine carcase allocation to cut options for optimised profits. This scenario was repeated using the predicted cut weights to determine the cut misallocations caused. DEXA-predicted cut weights produced 16.7% and 8.0% less misallocations than HSCW and GR. DEXA produced 20.8% and 14.3% less misallocations than HSCW and GR in shortloins, and 25.5% and 12.9% less in hindquarters. While cut misallocations have little direct impact on total profits, as product is over and under-valued when misallocated, reducing cut misallocations will improve processor compliance when sorting carcases into cut plans- reducing their need to retrim, downgrade and repackage product or the erosion of customer confidence caused by supplying product not meeting market specifications.

Navigation of mobile agents in unknown, unmapped environments is a critical task for achieving general autonomy. Recent advancements in combining Reinforcement Learning with Deep Neural Networks have shown promising results in addressing this challenge. However, the inherent complexity of these approaches, characterized by multi-layer networks and intricate reward objectives, limits their autonomy, increases memory footprint, and complicates adaptation to energy-efficient edge hardware. To overcome these challenges, we propose a brain-inspired method that employs a shallow architecture trained by a local learning rule for self-supervised navigation in uncharted environments. Our approach achieves performance comparable to a state-of-the-art Deep Q Network (DQN) method with respect to goal-reaching accuracy and path length, with a similar (slightly lower) number of parameters, operations, and training iterations. Notably, our self-supervised approach combines novelty-based and random walks to alleviate the need for objective reward definition and enhance agent autonomy. At the same time, the shallow architecture and local learning rule do not call for error backpropagation, decreasing the memory overhead and enabling implementation on edge neuromorphic processors. These results contribute to the potential of embodied neuromorphic agents utilizing minimal resources while effectively handling variability.

Triticum mosaic virus (TriMV, genus , family ) was first reported in 2006 (Seifers et al. 2008) to infect wheat, and since then, it has been established as a constraint for US wheat production (Byamukama et al. 2013). In the field, TriMV often exists as a coinfection with wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV), and these two viruses interact synergistically to produce severe symptoms and greater yield loss (Byamukama et al. 2012; Tatineni et al. 2022). Both TriMV and WSMV are transmitted by wheat curl mites (Aceria tosichella Keifer) (McMechan et al. 2014). Wheat is the primary host reported for TriMV in the field, but Seifers et al. (2010) established oat, rye, barley, and several other cereals and grasses as hosts under controlled conditions. However, there are no documented cases of TriMV infecting oats in the field. Between 10-25 June, 2023, a total of 273 field oat plants showing foliar yellowing, yellow flecking, and streaking symptoms were collected from four different fields in Nebraska (Big Springs: 41.1029° N, 102.1451° W; Mead: 41.2292° N, 96.4938° W; Odell: 40.0459° N, 96.7984° W; Stumf: 40.5048° N, 101.4223° W). Total RNA was extracted using the MagMax Plant RNA Isolation kit (Thermo Fisher Scientific) and the KingFisher Flex Magnetic Particle Processor (Thermo Fisher Scientific) (Mondal et al. 2023). Sample RNA was assayed with a single-step multiplex reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to determine presence of WSMV and TriMV. Out of 273 symptomatic oat plants, 254 (93.04%) tested positive for at least one virus. Out of total positive samples, 238 were positive for WSMV (93.70 %), 12 plants tested positive for both TriMV and WSMV (4.70%), and 4 plants were infected with TriMV alone (1.60%). As a secondary confirmation, amplified fragments from the TriMV single infection were gel purified using a gel extraction kit (QIAquick) and sequenced (Eurofins Genomics). The nucleotide sequences were analysed using the BlastN program, compiled, and edited in the BioEdit software (Hall 1999). Sequences were deposited in the NCBI GenBank database (accession number PP475806). Nucleotide BLAST searches of the target coat protein (CP) gene showed > 98% identity to the corresponding sequences in TriMV accession MK318274. For further validation, virus inoculum was prepared by grinding field-collected plant material from plants with only TriMV present in 20 mM sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.0, and then mechanically inoculating two-week-old oats (cv. Shaw n=8) and wheat (cv. Sattler, n=8) plants. Three weeks post-inoculation, all the eight wheat plants exhibited mild yellowing and streaking symptoms, while oat plants did not show obvious foliar symptoms. All wheat and oat plants were further tested positive with DAC-ELISA (antibodies produced against TriMV CP at the USDA-ARS facility in Lincoln, NE) and with RT-PCR. The specific attribution of these symptoms to TriMV in oats is not possible as none produced prominent symptoms. Asymptomatic oat infection from symptomatic field-collected oat samples could be due to oat cultivar differences. Although the prevalence of TriMV in wheat has been established across the Great Plains of the United States, to our knowledge, this is the first report of TriMV infection in US oat fields. Our finding warrant further investigation into the incidence and impact of the virus in oat crop and its potential for serving as a asymptomatic virus reservoir.

Effect of 12-week head-down strong abdominal breathing on cognitive function in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a single-centre randomised controlled trial protocol.
BACKGROUND
Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often suffer from a combination of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and a significant reduction in their quality of life. In the exercise programme of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), pulmonary rehabilitation intervention is often carried out by enhancing respiratory function. Strong abdominal breathing is a kind of breathing method, through which the diaphragm can be exercised, thereby enhancing the deflection distance of the diaphragm during breathing and improving respiratory function. The inversion trainer can meet the different angles of head-down training and also has the characteristics of low cost, easy to operate, and use a wide range of scenarios. According to currently available data, strong abdominal breathing in combination with head-down position has not yet been used in pulmonary rehabilitation in this type of rehabilitation programme. It is valuable to use this device to study PR of cognitive function in patients with COPD.
METHODS
This study was a 12-week single-centre randomised controlled trial and blinding the assessors and data processors of the test. Recruitment is planned for January 1, 2024. It is expected that 81 patients with stable COPD combined with MCI will be recruited and randomly assigned to the head-down strong abdominal breathing group (HG), the fitness qigong eight-duanjin group (BDJ), and the control group (CG) in a 1:1:1 ratio. Using fNIRS (functional near-infrared spectroscopy) to assess brain oxygen availability before and after pulmonary rehabilitation in three periods: before, during and after the intervention. Cognitive functioning is also assessed using the Overall Cognitive Assessment Scale, the Specific Cognitive Functioning Assessment Scale and the Cognitive Behavioural Ability Test.
TRIAL REGISTRATION
The Specialised Committee on Scientific Research and Academic Ethics of the Academic Committee of Anqing Normal University approved the project (ANU2023001). China Clinical Trial Registry approved the study (ChiCTR2300075400) with a registration date of 2023/09/04.
DISCUSSION
The aim of this study was to explore novel exercise rehabilitation methods to improve cognitive function in COPD patients. It results in a lower financial burden and higher participation in pulmonary rehabilitation and improves the quality of survival of patients with COPD.

Over the last decade, researchers have studied the interplay between quantum computing and classical machine learning algorithms. However, measurements often disturb or destroy quantum states, requiring multiple repetitions of data processing to estimate observable values. In particular, this prevents online (real-time, single-shot) processing of temporal data as measurements are commonly performed during intermediate stages. Recently, it was proposed to sidestep this issue by focusing on tasks with quantum output, eliminating the need for detectors. Inspired by reservoir computers, a model was proposed where only a subset of the internal parameters are trained while keeping the others fixed at random values. Here, we also process quantum time series, but we do so using a Recurrent Gaussian Quantum Network (RGQN) of which all internal interactions can be trained. As expected, this increased flexibility yields higher performance in benchmark tasks. Building on this, we show that the RGQN can tackle two quantum communication tasks, while also removing some hardware restrictions of the currently available methods. First, our approach is more resource efficient to enhance the transmission rate of quantum channels that experience certain memory effects. Second, it can counteract similar memory effects if they are unwanted, a task that could previously only be solved when redundantly encoded input signals could be provided. Finally, we run a small-scale version of the last task on Xanadu's photonic processor Borealis.

The quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) is a leading candidate algorithm for solving optimization problems on quantum computers. However, the potential of QAOA to tackle classically intractable problems remains unclear. Here, we perform an extensive numerical investigation of QAOA on the low autocorrelation binary sequences (LABS) problem, which is classically intractable even for moderately sized instances. We perform noiseless simulations with up to 40 qubits and observe that the runtime of QAOA with fixed parameters scales better than branch-and-bound solvers, which are the state-of-the-art exact solvers for LABS. The combination of QAOA with quantum minimum finding gives the best empirical scaling of any algorithm for the LABS problem. We demonstrate experimental progress in executing QAOA for the LABS problem using an algorithm-specific error detection scheme on Quantinuum trapped-ion processors. Our results provide evidence for the utility of QAOA as an algorithmic component that enables quantum speedups.

<b><br>Introduction:</b> In an era of wide accessibility to various systems for hearing impairment prosthetics, there exists a broad spectrum of surgical techniques facilitating system implantation.</br> <b><br>Aim:</b> The aim of the study is to present the technique of vertical incision in the implantation of the Baha Attract magnetic system as an alternative incision, maintaining a compromise between optimizing the surgical procedure and preserving the functionality and quality of life of the patient.</br> <b><br>Materials and methods:</b> The vertical incision technique is presented based on 5 patients treated between December 2022 and March 2023 diagnosed with conductive or mixed hearing loss.</br> <b><br>Results:</b> There were no adverse consequences or complications resulting from the performed surgical incision. All patients experienced uncomplicated healing. Patients are using sound processor magnets ranging from 4-5 in strength and Baha<sup></sup> 6 Max sound processors weighing 11.5 g.</br> <b><br>Conclusions:</b> The vertical incision technique serves as an alternative to the C-shaped perimeter incision, allowing for the optimization and standardization of the surgical procedure, resulting in a smooth scar formation and maintaining good audiological and aesthetic outcomes.</br>.
