Three d metal complexes, ZnL(OAc) (1), CdL(OAc) (2) and [CdL(NO)]·CHCN (3) were synthesized using the ligand (E)-N-(3-methoxy-4-methylphenyl)-1-(quinolin-2-yl)methanimine (L) and characterized by FT-IR spectra, NMR spectra, and CHN elemental analysis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that complexes 1 and 2 are isostructural, with the central metal adopting a hexacoordinate octahedral geometry, while complex 3 adopts a triangular dodecahedron geometry. Thermal gravimetric analysis showed that these complexes exhibit good thermal stability. Solid-state fluorescence spectroscopy measurements demonstrated that complexes 1-3 exhibit bright yellow-green fluorescence (λ = 564 nm for 1; 524 nm for 2; 542 nm for 3), suggesting their potential as photoluminescent materials. Furthermore, DFT calculations, including frontier molecular orbitals, energy levels, and surface electrostatic potential, provided insights into the structural and electronic spectral properties of complexes 1-3.

Pedalium Murex leaf extract was used in this study to create Nickel-doped Cerium oxide (Ni-CeO) nanoparticles at 3 mol% and 5 mol% molar concentrations. The biosynthesized process was applied for the fabrication of Ni-CeO NPs. The X-ray diffraction method was used to identify their crystal structure. The XRD measurements showed that the Ni-CeO NPs crystallized into the face-centred cubic system. Fourier transform infrared spectral study was applied to explore the molecular vibrations and chemical bonding. The surface texture and chemical ingredients of Ni-CeO NPs were studied using field-emission scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The EDX mapping spectra illustrate the uniform dispersal of Ce, Ni, and O atoms over the sample's surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was conducted to confirm the chemical state of the Ni-CeO NPs. UV-Vis spectrum study was performed to ascertain the photon absorption, bandgap, and Urbach edge of Ni-CeO NPs. Photoluminescence (PL) research has been used to study the light-emitting characteristic of Ni-CeO NPs. The emissive intensity transition corresponding to Ni-CeO NPs was found to increase with the dopant level. The CIE 1931 chromaticity map was plotted to find the aptness of the samples for optical uses. The antifungal ability of Ni-CeO NPs was evaluated against the fungi candida albicans and candida krusein with the agar well-diffusion process. The fungicidal activity of the 3 mol% Ni doped CeO nanoparticles has shown a maximum zone of inhibition. The experimental findings illustrate the utility of Ni-CeO NPs for optical and antifungal applications.

Work has not examined if acculturation or enculturation may predict endorsed benefits, barriers, and intentions to seek mental health services for depression, specifically among Latino students enrolled in a rural and majority Latino immigrant institution of higher education. An improved understanding of factors informing mental health help-seeking is needed to identify possible intervention points to address gaps in accessing depression treatment. Participants (N = 406) read a vignette depicting a person with depressive symptoms. Participants were asked if they would seek help for depression if in the situation described in the vignette. Participants provided text responses about their preferences for managing depression symptoms and their mental health help-seeking history. Additionally, participants completed a self-report depression symptom screener, demographic surveys, acculturation assessment, and questionnaires on perceived benefits and barriers to seeking mental health services. Path analysis was used to test the link between acculturation status and intent to seek services for depression, with benefits and barriers as mediators. The results revealed that higher perceived benefits and lower barriers were directly associated with greater intentions to seek help. Furthermore, an indirect effect of acculturation on help-seeking intentions via higher perceived benefits of seeking care was observed. These findings persisted after controlling for age, gender, depression, and history of seeking care for depression. Future work should test the replicability of this finding with diverse college students living in predominantly immigrant communities. Universities might consider tailoring outreach initiatives to provide information on the range and accessibility of mental health services, the location of mental health service centers, and the procedures for accessing such services.

The health of refugees has been widely documented, as has the impact of a range of factors throughout the migration journey from being exposed to violence to the impacts of immigration detention. This study adds to our understanding of health-related quality of life amongst refugees and asylum seekers by evaluating health-related quality of life as measured by the Short-Form 36 (SF-36) Health Survey using meta-analysis. The aims of this study were to (1) provide a summary and overview of health-related quality of life (as measured by the SF-36), including the extent to which this varies and (2) explore the factors that influence health-related quality of life (as measured by the SF-36) amongst refugees and asylum seekers. A search was undertaken of MEDLINE, CINAHL, PSYCINFO and SCOPUS, returning 3965 results. Papers were included if they sampled refugees (or asylum seeker or those with refugee-like experiences) and used the SF-36 (or its variants) as an outcome measure. Mean scores and standard deviations were pooled using a random effects model. The pooled sample size was 18,418. The pooled mean scores for the SF-36 physical summary measures was 54.99 (95% CI 46.01-63.99), while the mental health summary measure was 52.39 (95% CI 43.35-61.43). The pooled mean scores for each of the sub-scales ranged from 49.6 (vitality) to 65.54 (physical functioning). High heterogeneity was found between both summary measures and all sub-scales. In comparison to SF-36 results from general populations in high and middle income countries, these results suggest that refugee quality of life is generally poorer. However, this varied substantially between studies. One issue that is not well clarified by this review are the factors that contributed to health-related quality of life.

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects memory and cognitive abilities, affecting millions of people around the world. Current treatments focus on the management of symptoms, as no effective therapy has been approved to modify the underlying disease process. Gene therapy is a promising approach that can offer disease-modifying treatment for AD, targeting various aspects of the pathophysiology of the disease. This review presents a comprehensive overview of the current state of gene therapy research for AD, with a specific focus on clinical trials and preclinical studies that have used nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), apolipoprotein E2 (APOE2), and human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) as therapeutic gene therapy approaches. These gene targets have shown potential to alleviate the neuropathology of AD in animal studies and have demonstrated feasibility and safety in non-human primates. Despite the failure of the NGF gene therapy approach in clinical trials, we have reviewed and highlighted the reported findings and evaluations from the trials. Furthermore, the review included the conclusions of postmortem brain tissue analysis of AD patients who received NGF gene therapy. The goal is to learn from the failed trials and improve the approach in the future. Although gene therapy shows promise, it faces several challenges and limitations, including optimizing gene delivery methods, enhancing safety and efficacy profiles, and determining long-term results. This review contributes to the growing body of literature on innovative treatments for AD and highlights the need for more research and development to advance gene therapy as a viable treatment option for AD.

Perineuronal nets (PNNs) are a type of extracellular matrix (ECM) that play a significant role in synaptic activity and plasticity of interneurons in health and disease. We researched PNNs' regional and laminar representation and molecular composition using immunohistochemistry and transcriptome analysis of Brodmann areas (BA) 9, 14r, and 24 in 25 human postmortem brains aged 13-82 years. The numbers of VCAN- and NCAN-expressing PNNs, relative to the total number of neurons, were highest in cortical layers I and VI while WFA-binding (WFA) PNNs were most abundant in layers III-V. The ECM glycosylation pattern was the most pronounced regional difference, shown by a significantly lower proportion of WFA PNNs in BA24 (3.27 ± 0.69%) compared to BA9 (6.32 ± 1.73%; P = 0.0449) and BA14 (5.64 ± 0.71%; P = 0.0278). The transcriptome of late developmental and mature stages revealed a relatively stable expression of PNN-related transcripts (log2-transformed expression values: 6.5-8.5 for VCAN and 8.0-9.5 for NCAN). Finally, we propose a classification of PNNs that envelop GABAergic neurons in the human cortex. The significant differences in PNNs' morphology, distribution, and molecular composition strongly suggest an involvement of PNNs in specifying distinct microcircuits in particular cortical regions and layers.

Simultaneous targeting of several mutations can be useful in colorectal cancer (CRC) due to its heterogeneity and presence of somatic mutations. As CT26 mutations and expression profiles resemble those of human CRC, we focused on designing a polyepitope vaccine based on CT26 neoepitopes. Due to its low immunogenicity, outer membrane vesicles (rOMV) as an antigen delivery system and adjuvant was applied. Herein, based on previous experimental and our in silico studies four CT26 neoepitopes with the ability to bind MHC-I and MHC-II, TCR, and induce IFN-α production were selected. To increase their immunogenicity, the gp70 and PADRE epitopes were added. The order of the neoepitopes was determined through 3D structure analysis using ProSA, Verify 3D, ERRAT, and Ramachandran servers. The stable peptide-protein docking between the selected epitopes and MHC alleles strengthen our prediction. The CT26 polytope vaccine sequence was fused to the C-terminal of cytolysin A (ClyA) anchor protein and rOMVs were isolated from endotoxin-free ClearColi™ strain. The results of the C-ImmSim server showed that the ClyA-CT26 polytope vaccine could induce T and B cells immunity.The ClyA-CT26 polytope was characterized as a soluble, stable, immunogen, and non-allergen vaccine and optimized for expression in ClearColi™ 24 h after induction with 1 mM IPTG at 25 °C. Western blot analysis confirmed the expression of ClyA-CT26 polytope by ClearColi™ and also on ClearColi™-derived rOMVs. In conclusion, we found that ClearColi™-derived rOMVs with CT26 polytope can deliver CRC neoantigens and induce antitumor immunity, but in vivo immunological studies are needed to confirm vaccine efficacy.

BACKGROUND
Resveratrol is a non-flavonoid polyphenol that shows promise in reducing pro-inflammatory factors and maintaining endothelial function, which hints at its potential role in slowing atherosclerosis and preventing acute coronary events.
OBJECTIVE
To study the cardioprotective effects of resveratrol on inflammatory mediators and endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
METHODS
A thorough search was conducted in databases (Cochrane Library, ProQuest, PubMed, LILACS, ScienceDirect, Springer, Taylor&Francis, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu) until September 24, 2023. The vasopro-inflammatory mediators, endothelial function and outcomes related to cardiovascular events were observed. Titles and abstracts were assessed, and bias was evaluated with Cochrane RoB 2.0. Heterogeneity of results was explored by meta-regression, certainty of evidence was assessed by the GRADE system, and conclusive evidence was enhanced by trial sequence analysis.
RESULTS
Ten randomized controlled trials and 3 animal studies investigated resveratrol's impact on inflammatory mediators and endothelial function. In primary prevention studies, meta-analysis showed a significant reduction (95% CI: -0.73 to -0.20; P=0.0005) in tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) expression with resveratrol, demonstrating a dose-dependent relationship. No significant difference was observed in interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression with P=0.58 for primary prevention and P=0.57 for secondary prevention. Vascular endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression was significantly increased after resveratrol pre-treatment following CAD events. Secondary prevention studies yielded no significant results; however, meta-regression identified associations between age, hypertension, and lower doses with the extent of TNF-α alterations. High certainty of evidence supported TNF-α reduction, while evidence for IL-6 reduction and eNOS elevation was deemed low.
CONCLUSION
Resveratrol reduces TNF-α in individuals at risk for CAD, specifically 15 mg per day. However, its usefulness in patients with confirmed CAD is limited due to factors such as age, high blood pressure, and insufficient dosage. Due to the small sample size, the reduction of IL-6 is inconclusive. Animal studies suggest that resveratrol enhances endothelial function by increasing eNOS. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) feature-tracking (FT) has an important diagnostic role in non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM). To date, the relationship between whole-heart myocardial mechanics by CMR and early primary outcomes in NIDCM has not been elucidated. patients with NIDCM were eligible for this study. CMR-FT was used to analyze whole-heart myocardial mechanics. The primary outcomes were a composite of heart failure (HF) death, heart transplantation (HT), and hospitalization for HF worsening (WHF) after 1-year since diagnosis. 98 patients were included. During a 1-year follow-up, a worse prognosis occurred in 32 patients (30 hospitalizations for WHF, 8 deaths, and 3 HT). The left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal systolic strain (GLS), left ventricular global circumferential strain (LV GCS), strains of right ventricle and both atria were significantly reduced in patients with events vs. those without (GLS - 8.0 ± 3.4 vs. - 12.1 ± 4.5, p < 0.001; GCS - 13.0 ± 6.4 vs. - 18.3 ± 7.1, p < 0.001; right ventricular (RV) GLS - 12.1 ± 4.9 vs. - 17.4 ± 6.4, p < 0.001; left atrial longitudinal strain 7.5 ± 3.8 vs. 15.1 ± 12.3, p < 0.001; right atrial longitudinal strain 11.0 ± 6.7 vs. 17.2 ± 8.0, p < 0.001). Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was significantly higher in patients with better prognosis (22.7 ± 8.7 vs. 33.56 ± 10.4, p < 0.001). Multivariate regression analysis revealed LV GLS as an independent predictor of a worse prognosis (OR 0.787, CI 95% 0.697-0.890, p < 0.001). reduction of LV GLS showed the strongest predictive value for the composite outcome of WHF, HT, and HF death.

Several rivers that are tributaries of the Oder estuary are inhabited by Salmo trutta L, the most important of which are Ina, Gowienica, and Wołczenica. Both forms of the species, sea trout and resident brown trout, are present. All rivers are traditionally stocked with either sea trout from the neighboring Pomeranian river Rega basin or resident brown trout from various locations. To examine populations in these rivers in terms of genetic structure, genetic diversity, and origin, they were analyzed using 13 microsatellite loci. Relatedness was also assessed for fish stocked in the same year. The obtained genotypes were compared with breeding stocks used for stocking in Poland. The analyses revealed a significant genetic distance between adult individuals from Ina and Rega Rivers and fish caught during electrofishing. Strong kinship relationships were identified in the sampled areas, with high proportions of fish originating from stocking and their dominance in numbers over wild juveniles, primarily in smaller tributaries. Additionally, clear separation in the origin of stocked individuals was observed. Adult trout from Ina and Rega are genetically closer to northern brown trout lineages, providing crucial information for the management and biodiversity conservation of Polish Salmo trutta populations.
