Mental imagery is recognised for its role in both psychological distress and wellbeing, with mental imagery techniques increasingly being incorporated into psychological interventions. In this systematic review and narrative synthesis (PROSPERO 2021: CRD42021240930), we identify and evaluate the evidence base for the phenomenon and phenomenology of mental imagery in people with intellectual disabilities, to ascertain the applicability of such interventions for this population. Electronic searches of nine databases and grey literature identified relevant publications. Two reviewers independently assessed titles and abstracts of retrieved records (n = 8609) and full-text articles (n = 101) against eligibility criteria. Data were extracted and quality appraised. Forty-onepapers met our eligibility criteria. The quality and designs were variable. Mental imagery was facilitated through ensuring participants understood tasks, providing opportunity to rehearse tasks (including using concrete prompts) and using scaffolding to help participants elaborate their responses. People with intellectual disabilities can engage with mental imagery, with appropriate adaptations, although the associated phenomenology has not been thoroughly investigated. Mental imagery interventions may be useful for people with intellectual disabilities with appropriate modifications.

Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a new safe and efficient tool for the rehabilitation of many childhood and adulthood illnesses. VR-based therapies have the potential to improve both motor and functional skills in a wide range of age groups through cortical reorganization and the activation of various neuronal connections. Recently, the potential for using serious VR-based games that combine perceptual learning and dichoptic stimulation has been explored for the rehabilitation of ophthalmological and neurological disorders. In ophthalmology, several clinical studies have demonstrated the ability to use VR training to enhance stereopsis, contrast sensitivity, and visual acuity. The use of VR technology provides a significant advantage in training each eye individually without requiring occlusion or penalty. In neurological disorders, the majority of patients undergo recurrent episodes (relapses) of neurological impairment, however, in a few cases (60-80%), the illness progresses over time and becomes chronic, consequential in cumulated motor disability and cognitive deficits. Current research on memory restoration has been spurred by theories about brain plasticity and findings concerning the nervous system's capacity to reconstruct cellular synapses as a result of interaction with enriched environments. Therefore, the use of VR training can play an important role in the improvement of cognitive function and motor disability. Although there are several reviews in the community employing relevant Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, VR has not yet been thoroughly examined in this regard. In this systematic review, we examine the key ideas of VR-based training for prevention and control measurements in ocular diseases such as Myopia, Amblyopia, Presbyopia, and Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Epilepsy and Autism spectrum disorder. This review highlights the fundamentals of VR technologies regarding their clinical research in healthcare. Moreover, these findings will raise community awareness of using VR training and help researchers to learn new techniques to prevent and cure different diseases. We further discuss the current challenges of using VR devices, as well as the future prospects of human training.

The epidemiological demands of aging point to the need for characterizing older adults regarding health and disability. This systematic review aims to summarize the indicators (instruments) identifying different components of disability as a result of aging exposition in community-dwelling older adults, considering the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health framework. Taking the PRISMA 2020 recommendations as a reference, studies with community-dwelling older adults, reporting the development and/or age disability modifications were included. Two reviewers analyzed the observational studies searched in the MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase databases. Of the 137 potentially eligible studies, 49 were included in this review. Several indicators (instruments) demonstrated older adults' disabilities according to the different domains of the ICF. Objective measures assessed Body Structures, Body Functions, and Environmental Factors and included handgrip strength (dynamometry, = 8), cognitive function (Mini-Mental State examination, = 7), gait speed (walk test, = 6), and endurance (Chair stand-test, = 4). Self-reported measures assessed Activities and Participation, but not the Body Structures, and included the basic and instrumental activities of daily living (ADL) (the Katz Index of ADL, = 4 studies, the Lawton and Brody Instrumental ADL, = 4 studies). The summary of the measures gathered can guide researchers and health professionals to select indicators (instruments) to assess and monitor older adults' disabilities resulting from aging exposition, to support the development of new wearables, and to provide improvements to the existing ones, allowing the tailored assessment of different health and disability dimensions.

INTRODUCTION
People with cancer frequently report limitation in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs); essential activities required to live independently within society. Although several studies have assessed ADL related disability, variability in assessment, setting, and population means evidence is difficult to interpret. We aimed to determine the prevalence of ADL related disability, overall and by setting, and the most commonly affected ADLs in people living with cancer.
METHODS
We searched twelve databases to June 2016 for observational studies assessing ADL disability in adults with cancer. Data on study design, population, ADL instruments and disability (difficulty with or requiring assistance in ≥1 activity) were extracted, summarised, and pooled to estimate disability prevalence with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) overall and by setting.
RESULTS
Forty-three studies comprising 19,246 patients were included. Overall, 36.7% (95% CI 29.8-44.3, 18 studies) and 54.6% (95% CI 46.5-62.3, 15 studies) of patients respectively reported disability relating to basic and instrumental ADLs. Disability was marginally more prevalent in inpatient compared to outpatient settings. The Katz Index (18 studies) and Lawton IADL Scale (11 studies) were the most commonly used instruments. Across the activities studied, the most frequently affected basic ADLs were personal hygiene, walking and transfers, and instrumental ADLs were housework, shopping and transportation.
CONCLUSIONS
About one-third and half of adults with cancer respectively have difficulty or require assistance to perform basic and instrumental ADLs. These findings highlight the need for rehabilitation focused on functional independence, and underscore the importance of professionals skilled in occupational assessment and therapy within cancer services.

In many settler-colonial countries, Indigenous people do not access disability services at rates commensurate with disability prevalence. Existing research suggests that services often do not reflect Indigenous values and social practices, impacting on accessibility. Furthermore, disability services have historically been implicated in processes of colonisation. There is an urgent need to decolonise disability services. Understanding Indigenous knowledge and experience of disability is a necessary step towards achieving this. We systematically reviewed the disability conceptualisations, practices and experiences of First Nations peoples of Australia. Twelve studies met inclusion criteria. There was a consensus among these studies that Western constructs of disability do not resonate with many First Nations people across Australia. The studies reported that many First Nations people conceptualise most disabilities as unremarkable conditions that reflect the normal range of human diversity, although some conditions may be associated with social stigma. Inclusive attitudes and practices of caregiving in First Nations families facilitate the participation of First Nations people with disabilities in family and community life. However, ableism and racism in broader society combine to exclude many First Nations peoples with disabilities from public spaces and from labour markets. Disability services regularly fail to reflect First Nations values and social practices, and can lead to further disempowerment and marginalisation due to diagnostic processes; displacement from country and communities; gendered discrimination; and poor relationships with service providers. We argue that intersectional experiences of colonialism, racism, ableism and sexism, particularly in disability services, can lead to the marginalisation of First Nations participants and families. The decolonisation of disability services requires services to embrace diverse First Nations values and practices associated with human capability, social participation and caregiving. Decolonising disability services also necessitates First Nations control of the governance of disability services and reform across service, organisational, systemic and conceptual levels.

This systematic review aimed to assess the effect of gender on the incidence of functional disability in the elderly. The search for publications in the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and ProQuest electronic databases from January 1990 to March 2008 identified 879 publications, from which 21 cohort studies were selected that evaluated gender as an independent variable and incidence of functional disability in elderly as the outcome. Review of the studies found that after adjusting for socioeconomic, health, and social relations indicators, incidence of functional disability was similar between genders. The main risk factors for functional disability in the elderly, regardless of gender, were: lack of schooling, living in rental housing, chronic diseases, arthritis, diabetes, visual impairment, body mass index above 25, poor self-perceived health, cognitive impairment, depression, slow gait, sedentary lifestyle, tiredness while performing daily activities, and limited diversity in social relations.

BACKGROUND
Despite the increasing global population of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), this population remains especially vulnerable to health disparities through several factors such as a lack of access to sufficient medical care and poor determinants of health. To add, numerous studies have shown that healthcare professionals are still insufficiently prepared to support this population of patients. This review synthesizes the literature on current pre-graduate IDD training programs across healthcare professions with the goal of informing the creation of evidence-based curricula.
METHODS
Four major databases were searched for current pre-graduate IDD training interventions for healthcare professionals. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis flow diagram and the Best Evidence Medical Educations systematic review guide were used to frame our collection and analysis.
RESULTS
Of the 8601 studies screened, 32 studies were identified, with most studies involving medical students (50%). Of note, 35% of studies were interprofessional. Most interventions utilized multiple pedagogical methods with a majority including clinical experiences (63%) followed by theoretical teaching (59%). Kirkpatrick levels showed 9% were level 0, 6% were level 1, 31% were level 2A, 31% were level 2B, 19% were level 3, 3% were level 4A, and none were level 4B.
CONCLUSIONS
There is a paucity of formally evaluated studies in pre-graduate health professional IDD education. As well, there are a lack of longitudinal learning opportunities and integration into formal curriculum. Strengths identified were the use of multimodal approaches to teaching, including interprofessional approaches to optimize team competencies.

BACKGROUND
Women with disabilities are increasingly becoming pregnant, and growing evidence suggests maternal disability may be associated with increased risk for perinatal complications.
OBJECTIVE
A systematic review and meta-analysis were undertaken to examine the association between maternal disabilities and risk for perinatal complications.
STUDY DESIGN
Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE, and PsycINFO were searched from inception to July 2018 for full-text publications in English on pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum complications in women with any disability and those with physical, sensory, and intellectual and developmental disabilities specifically. Searches were limited to quantitative studies with a comparison group of women without disabilities. Reviewers used standardized instruments to extract data from and assess the quality of included studies. Pooled odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were generated using DerSimonian and Laird random effects models for outcomes with data available from ≥3 studies.
RESULTS
The review included 23 studies, representing 8,514,356 women in 19 cohorts. Women with sensory (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 2.85, 95% confidence interval, 0.79-10.31) and intellectual and developmental disabilities (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.10, 95% confidence interval, 0.76-1.58) had elevated but not statistically significant risk for gestational diabetes. Women with any disability (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.45, 95% confidence interval, 1.16-1.82) and intellectual and developmental disabilities (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.77, 95% confidence interval, 1.21-2.60) had increased risk for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy; risk was elevated but not statistically significant for women with sensory disabilities (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 2.84, 95% confidence interval, 0.85-9.43). Women with any (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.31, 95% confidence interval, 1.02-1.68), physical (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.60, 95% confidence interval, 1.21-2.13), and intellectual and developmental disabilities (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.29, 95% confidence interval, 1.02-1.63) had increased risk for cesarean delivery; risk among women with sensory disabilities was elevated but not statistically significant (pooled unadjusted odds ratio, 1.28, 95% confidence interval, 0.84-1.93). There was heterogeneity in all analyses, and 13 studies had weak-quality ratings, with lack of control for confounding being the most common limitation.
CONCLUSION
Evidence that maternal disability is associated with increased risk for perinatal complications demonstrates that more high-quality research is needed to examine the reasons for this risk and to determine what interventions could be implemented to support women with disabilities during the perinatal period.

Physical activity, including aerobic exercise, is highly recommended for chronic low back pain (CLBP) patients to improve pain intensity and functional disability. To assess the effectiveness of different aerobic exercises to reduce pain intensity and functional disability in patients with CLBP. A computer-aided search was performed to find Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) that evaluated the effectiveness of different aerobic exercises in CLBP. Articles published between January 2007 to December 2020 were included in the review. Quality assessment using the PEDro scale, extraction of relevant information, and evaluation of outcomes were done by two reviewers independently. A total of 17 studies were included that involved 1146 participants. Outcomes suggested that aerobic exercise combined with other interventions was more effective than aerobic exercise alone. Aerobic exercise with higher frequency (≥ 5 days/week) and longer duration (≥ 12 weeks) were effective to gain clinically significant (≥ 30%) improvements. Environment and using pedometer did not seem to influence the outcomes. Pain intensity and functional disability in CLBP patients can be minimized by prescribing aerobic exercise. However, to get better improvements, aerobic exercise should be done in combination with other interventions and at optimum frequency and duration. Further studies should emphasize examining the optimal doses and duration of different aerobic exercises.

BACKGROUND
Pain beliefs might play a role in the development, transition, and perpetuation of shoulder pain.
OBJECTIVE
To systematically review and critically appraise the association and the predictive value of pain beliefs on pain intensity and/or disability in shoulder pain.
METHODS
An electronic search of PubMed, EBSCOhost, AMED, CINAHL, EMBASE, and PubPsych, and grey literature was searched from inception to July 2017. Study selection was based on observational studies exploring the association and the predictive value of pain beliefs on pain intensity and/or disability in shoulder pain.
RESULTS
A total of thirty-three articles were included with a total sample of 10,293 participants with shoulder pain. In the cross-sectional analysis, higher levels of pain catastrophizing and kinesiophobia were significantly associated with more pain intensity and disability, whereas higher levels of expectations of recovery and self-efficacy were significantly associated with lower levels of pain intensity and disability. In the longitudinal analysis, higher levels of pain catastrophizing, fear-avoidance and kinesiophobia at baseline predicted greater pain intensity and disability overtime. Higher levels of self-efficacy and expectations of recovery at baseline predicted a reduction in levels of pain intensity and disability overtime.
CONCLUSIONS
Evidence suggests that pain beliefs are associated with and predict the course of pain intensity and disability in shoulder pain. However, the overall body of the evidence after applying the GRADE approach was very low across studies. Further research using higher quality longitudinal designs and procedures would be needed to establish firm conclusions.
