Review
Lumbar isthmic spondylolisthesis is the anterior translation of one lumbar vertebra relative to the next caudal segment as a result of an abnormality in the pars interarticularis. Although it is most often an asymptomatic radiographic finding, symptomatic patients may present with low back and/or radicular leg pain. In the setting of persistent symptoms, despite nonoperative treatment, surgery can be considered. Successful arthrodesis and neurologic decompression, when necessary, are the chief goals of surgical treatment, which has demonstrated reasonable long-term outcomes. A variety of surgical treatment options are available and the relative efficacy of them based on patient-specific factors continue to be investigated.

Review
Pelvic fractures are commonly observed in cats after automobile-induced trauma and frequently affect other organ systems. An organized systematic approach should be followed in the evaluation of pelvic fractures. Common pelvic fracture patterns observed in cats include pubic fractures in combination with unilateral ilial fractures, unilateral sacroiliac luxations, bilateral sacroiliac luxations, and contralateral ilial body fractures. Narrowing of the pelvic canal may preclude normal passage of feces and result in megacolon. Timely and precise surgical intervention is necessary so as to impart a favorable prognosis.

Congenital malformations of the lumbosacral spine include spinal dysraphism and caudal anomalies. Most often, these malformations are discovered prenatally or in early infancy, but some are not diagnosed until late childhood or adulthood. The purpose of this pictorial review is to illustrate the multi-modality imaging characteristics in these complex anomalies and to provide a systematic radiological approach aiming at improving diagnostic accuracy.

Review
An association between degenerative changes in the lumbosacral region of the vertebral column and clinical signs of pain and pelvic limb dysfunction has long been recognized in dogs and has become known as degenerative lumbosacral stenosis syndrome. Over the past two decades, methods of imaging this condition have advanced greatly, but definitive criteria for a reliable diagnosis using physical examination, imaging and electrodiagnostics remain elusive. Available treatment options have changed little over more than 30 years but, more importantly, there is a lack of comparative studies and little progress has been made in providing evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of affected dogs. This review provides an overview of the changes in diagnosis, understanding and treatment of lumbosacral disease in dogs over the past 30 years. Approaches to address the unanswered questions regarding treatment choice are also proposed.

Review
As a common disease in clinical, the treatment of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) focused on local intervertebral disc, such as surgery and other interventional therapy treatment, but postoperative complications and recurrence rate has been a difficult problem in the field of profession. With the development of spine biomechanics and anatomy, researches on lumbar herniation also increased. Researchers discovered that the incidence and prognosis of LDH were inseparable with local muscle and soft tissue. As the deep paraspinal muscles, multifidus muscle plays an important role to make lumbar stability. Its abnormal function could reduce the stable of lumbar spine, and the chronic lumbar disease could also lead to multifidus muscle atrophy.

When a patient presents with spine problems, the spine surgeon would do well to avoid use of, reliance on, and acceptance of radiographs as the sole or primary source of information. Measurement of pelvic incidence and lumbar lordosis, although crucial, does not take into account the effort the patient must make to move, the level of involvement of other parts of the body, and the history of previous procedures and outcomes. Radiographs may show pathology that is not consistent with the appearance of the patient. How should we assess this situation?
