  • An aldosterone antagonist with potassium-sparing diuretic activity. Canrenone specifically antagonizes aldosterone at the mineralocorticoid receptor in the kidneys, thereby increasing sodium excretion and inhibiting potassium excretion. Canrenone is the primary active metabolite of both spironolactone and canreonate potassium.
