chromatin immunoprecipitation
Subclass of:
Immunoprecipitation;
Genetic Techniques
Definitions related to chromatin immunoprecipitation:
-
A technique for identifying specific DNA sequences that are bound, in vivo, to proteins of interest. It involves formaldehyde fixation of CHROMATIN to crosslink the DNA-BINDING PROTEINS to the DNA. After shearing the DNA into small fragments, specific DNA-protein complexes are isolated by immunoprecipitation with protein-specific ANTIBODIES. Then, the DNA isolated from the complex can be identified by PCR amplification and sequencing.NLM Medical Subject HeadingsU.S. National Library of Medicine, 2021
-
A technique that utilizes immunoprecipitation to find protein-DNA interactions in a biological sample. First, the sample is treated causing the formation of protein-chromatin crosslinks. Then, the sample is sheared to separate individual protein-DNA complexes. Finally, an antibody directed against a protein of interest is applied and the protein-DNA complexes are immunoprecipitated.NCI ThesaurusU.S. National Cancer Institute, 2021
-
For the immunoprecipitation of transcriptionally active chromatin from mammalian cells.CRISP ThesaurusNational Institutes of Health, 2006
