  • Any agent that inhibits prostaglandin G/H synthase (cyclooxygenase or COX), an enzyme that catalyzes the production of prostanoids, including prostaglandins, prostacyclin and thromboxane, from arachidonic acid. Cyclooxygenase inhibitors are a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
